There hasn't been a huge amount of official information shared about Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora yet, however, Ubisoft has given us a small glimpse of the game in a first-look trailer with a look at the game's first-person perspective and the platforms it will be available on. Here's everything we know so far about the upcoming open-world Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora, including the release date, platforms, gameplay, trailers, and storyline.

Is There An Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora Release Date?

Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora is scheduled for release in 2023-24. Ubisoft has not yet given a more precise date as to when exactly during this period the game will be released. While the long-awaited Avatar 2 film is currently scheduled for release on December 16, 2022, it's unlikely that Ubisoft will release Frontiers Of Pandora around the same time.

Fans of James Cameron's record-breaking blockbuster Avatar have been anxiously awaiting the next instalment of the franchise ever since the first film landed in cinemas all the way back in 2009. Since then, the hype surrounding Avatar has sky-rocketed following Cameron's announcement at the 20th Century Fox CinemaCon in 2016 that four Avatar sequels are on the way

Then, to add some extra fuel to the Avatar fire, Ubisoft revealed that they and their partner studio, Massive Entertainment, were joining forces with Cameron to create an Avatar video game. This would, of course, go on to become Frontiers Of Pandora.

Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora Trailer

The Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora first-look trailer premiered at the Ubisoft Forward E3 2021 showcase in June, 2021. Although, it was a rather unexpected addition to the showcase and some fans on Twitter were disappointed not to get a new Splinter Cell update. It was further surprising as there had been rumours that, despite the initial announcement trailer, the new Avatar game had been quietly killed to make way for Ubisoft's open world Star Wars game.

However, the trailer silenced all those rumours and confirmed that Frontiers Of Pandora was currently in production. In the colourful trailer, Avatar fans will undoubtedly recognise Pandora's lush landscape along with its vibrant creatures and, of course, the Na'vi.

Going by the trailer for Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora, the game's storyline will be similar to the original film in that the Na'vi, the native people of Pandora, are striving to continue their day-to-day lives whilst defending their homeland from human destruction in a dystopian future. Whether or not the player will be similar to Avatar's protagonist, Jake Sully, and be a human in a Na'vi avatar has not yet been confirmed. Neither do we know yet whether the player will be able to edit and create their own avatar.

However, what we do know for sure is that Frontiers Of Pandora will be a first person game, which was referenced briefly in the trailer. Not only that but, according to the Ubisoft website, it will feature a "new, standalone story". Players will also be venturing across the never-before-seen part of Pandora called the Western Frontier.

Any die-hard Avatar gamers out there will know that this is very different to James Cameron's Avatar: The Game in 2009, which was released alongside the film and was played in third-person. This game also acted as a prequel to Avatar but saw the return of some original cast members, including Sigourney Weaver and Giovanni Ribisi, who reprised their roles from the film. There's no news as yet as to whether the same will be happening in Frontiers Of Pandora.

Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora will be only be available on current-gen consoles as the game has been built using the latest Snowdrop engine, according to Technical Art Director Sebastian Lindoff. Sadly, this means PS4 and Xbox One players may have to miss out. This means the Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora platforms are as follows:

  • PS5
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • PC
  • Amazon Luna

The Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora release date might seem like a fair old way away, but one thing's for sure, it will definitely be a beautiful game with luscious, alien environments. The idea that players will literally be able to live their best blue life as an Avatar and interact with the psychedelic world of Pandora is really exciting. Plus, at least the distant release date gives us plenty of time to practice our Na'vi.

Make sure you keep an eye out on GGRecon for more news on Avatar: Frontiers Of Pandora as we get closer to launch.
