The Apex Legends PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are finally here, letting players take part in the battle-royale mayhem with all the shiny features of next-gen consoles. Apex Legends has grown massively since its surprise launch way back in 2019, and while the community's love of it has maintained, many have been awaiting that next step onto newer consoles. If you're looking for a rundown of all the changes for the Apex Legends PS5 and Xbox Series X version, and how to get it running, we've got you covered.

EA announced that an Apex Legends next-gen upgrade would arrive in 2021, but that obviously didn't come to fruition. Players are still able to play Apex via backwards compatibility, but the experience isn't fully optimised for new-gen hardware and maxes out at 1440p resolutions. However, as of today, you can now play the full next-gen version.

There are a few promising features in this next-gen version which players have been asking about, for a long time. Firstly, for those with 4K televisions or monitors, both of these editions will output at 4K resolution, letting you taking part in the action with the best visual fidelity yet. To top this off, there is full support for gameplay at 60Hz, and even HDR to give you another option to improve the looks.

Some other nice additions, include higher resolution shadow maps, meaning you can skulk in the dark corners a lot easier, and there is better LOD overall, letting you see further and with more clarity.

  • 2022 could be a big year for Apex, especially with rumours swirling around of an Apex Legends TV Show

Depending on your platform of choice, the steps for getting up and running with the next-gen version are a little different. PlayStation 5 users will need first need to navigate to the PS5 dashboard and select the game hub for Apex. You should be able to then select 'options' and choose a version to download between PS4 and PS5. Once you've installed your next-gen version, you can delete the old one and free up some space.

For Xbox users this is a bit different, as you won't be required to actually do anything. On the Xbox platforms, Apex Legends boasts a smart delivery feature, meaning the very best version will be automatically downloaded to your console for you to play.

That's all for our breakdown of the Apex Legends PS5 and Xbox Series X|S version, and now you know what differences are coming to the next-gen version, along with how to play it yourself.
