You Need To Download Stray's DOOM Mod
Modding DOOM is probably as important to the gaming world as DOOM itself. The first-person shooter has developed a legacy, not only in birthing the FPS genre as we know it, but also in introducing a lot of gamers to the modding community at large.
It's boomed in popularity thanks to the constant ports of the game to LEGO bricks, smart fridges, and pregnancy tests are proof of just how adhesive the game is to the gaming community. But now, it's been ported into something else - namely, the most popular indie game of the year so far.
What Is The Stray DOOM Mod?
As modders go positively mad for adding their own cats and dogs into Stray, other modders have other ideas - and have seemingly wrangled DOOM into the game. This isn't quite like playing DOOM inside DOOM, but we'd argue it's something better.
YouTuber edy pagaza has shared a video of their new mod in progress s- which inserts the cat we know and love along with their robot companion B12 into the demon-slaying classic. It gives you the chance to beam baddies from the perspective of a lovable feline adventurer.
Better yet, the mod strips the models of the pair back so they're more polygonal, making them more in keeping with the game's style. It's an incredibly charming touch that's sure to become your favourite DOOM mod. We didn't know we needed to run through DOOM as a cat... until right now.
When Is The Stray DOOM Mod Launching?
Click to enlargeUnlike some mods that are just for fun, this Stray crossover isn't just for show. The mod's creator has revealed in the video's description that they intend to release the mod for anyone to take up and go on a killing spree.
According to edy pagaza, the Stray mod is getting a launch today (July 27), but he hasn't yet put out an official reveal, so it's likely that the mod will simply be released when it's ready. Either way, it'll be great fun to book it around DOOM as a stray cat. As though we needed another reason to play it.
