2023 is a massive one for gaming, and whether it's The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, or Starfield, let's not be sleeping on the remakes. Alongside Capcom's Resident Evil 4, EA Motive's Dead Space remake is one to watch.

Visceral Games released the first sci-fi slaughterfest in 2008, with its runaway success leading to Dead Space 2 being put into production almost immediately. From what little we've seen, EA Motive is doing more than just capturing the spirit of the original in its 2023 remake.

What Is The Dead Space Pre-Order Bonus?

The Dead Space remake hits PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC on January 27, and not that we needed any reason to pre-order, the new-gen game comes with a pretty impressive bonus.

If you pre-order Dead Space on Steam, you'll also get a copy of 2011's Dead Space. Sadly, this isn't another new-gen revamp, but just the good ol' Dead Space 2 from yesteryear.

Given that Dead Space 2 is currently $20/£10 on Steam, you're saving yourself some serious dollar. Then again, you can get a second-hand copy for just a fraction of that.

It sounds like a pretty good deal, but the worry is that jumping straight from a glossy 2023 game into one from 2011 will only highlight the differences. Things have come a long way in the last 12 years, and while we're sure Dead Space 2 still hold up narratively, it looks a little rough around the edges.

Still, if you're new to the franchise (where have you been?) and are trying out the Dead Space remake for the first time, you'll likely whet your appetite for blasting Necromorphs. Isaac Clarke's second adventure is arguably even better, so we're sure you'll want to see how it continues.

Is A Dead Space 2 Remake Coming Next?

Bundling Dead Space 2 with the remake is a clever idea, and assuming the latter sells as well as it deserves to, could we see No. 2 also get a new-gen upgrade?

We've seen this work wonders for Capcom with the Resident Evil games. Although there was the GameCube remake of the first game, things really moved forward with 2019's Resident Evil 2 remake and 2020's Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. 2023's Resident Evil 4 remake is already one of this year's most anticipated titles.

Dead Space spun out from the main series in a number of ways, but safe to say 2013's Dead Space 3 was held as a disappointment when compared to the others. EA wasn't happy with the sales figures, meaning the franchise was killed dead.

There's been more than enough time to warrant a Dead Space 2 remake, but we'll have to wait and see how this one does critically and commercially. Who knows, could a reignited love of Dead Space finally lead to the mythological hopes of Dead Space 4? It's about time Isaac Clarke was back in our lives.
