Warzone owes Rebirth Island and Fortune's Keep a great deal of gratitude that can never be repaid. Without the resurgence maps, the battle royale would have died out a year ago.

Caldera nearly finished off Warzone, following its transition from the 1970s version of Verdansk, with the vast majority of players despising the open pacific map, despite its somewhat pretty appearance.

Instead, the small-scale Resurgence maps carried Warzone over the line, offering a fast-tempo battle royale experience that honed in on movement and awareness. Now, it seems that the developers will be rewarding their loyal players with a map of a similar design, as a resurgence map is reportedly under development for the not-yet-released sequel.

Warzone 2 Resurgence Map Is In Development

According to popular leaker "TheGhostOfHope", Infinity Ward has been working on a Warzone 2 Resurgence map that will offer everything that Fortune's Keep and rebirth Island did, which will be released alongside the full-scale map that is expected to be revealed on September 15.

The map, which will be tailored exclusively for Resurgence, is set to be released in mid-2023.

Rebirth Island saw Infinity Ward redesign Alcatraz Prison and its surrounding island, whereas many players think Fortune's Keep is loosely based on the Italian town of Cinque Terra. It's not yet known if the Infinity Ward design will be focused on another real-life location.

Warzone's Map Pool To Continue Expanding In 2023

In addition to the Warzone 2 Resurgence map, the leaker also suggests that the developers will head into their second year of the Warzone 2 cycle with another map, taking the total up to three.

Whether or not this map will eclipse the one we shall see showcased at the CoD: Next exhibition is unknown, although many fans have called for Warzone to adopt the same approach as Apex Legends by having a variety of larger-scale battlegrounds that operate on a rotatory basis.

Over the years, we've seen Warzone destroy the current variation of their map in order to progress to the next stage of their timeline, although this has only placed more reliance on the single landscape. If fans don't like the single map, such as they did with Caldera, it can soon spiral out of popularity.

So, by this time next year, Warzone 2 might have three maps in total, which breeds well for content, longevity, and overall enjoyment.
