There's a lot of pressure on Al Mazrah to carry Warzone's sequel title, given the decline that we saw occur thanks to Caldera. As the sole battle royale map, the entire game rests on its design, bearing the weight of a million critics.

Not only does Al Mazrah have to serve as an apt battleground for the long-game players and tacticians, but a whole new fan base has thrived in the gap that was plugged by resurgence maps.

Heading into Warzone 2, resurgence maps are being put on hold altogether, with Rebirth Island and Fortune's Keep being removed from the retired title and nothing being released upon launch. But, if you really find yourself missing resurgence battles, you might not have to wait too long until it comes back.

Warzone 2 Resurgence Map Set For 2023 Release

According to renowned leaker "TheGhostOfHope", a resurgence map is currently under development and will be landing in mid-2023. The small-scale map will likely continue to be set in the Modern Warfare 2 era, given that we're set to be enjoying this period for two years.

Resurgence maps generally feature around 40 players and come in at just over the size of a Ground War design, allowing for main hubs of skirmishes and outskirt regions for looting up and regaining.

Beenox And Toys For Bob To Lead Warzone 2 Resurgence Map Development

The Warzone 2 resurgence map is being developed by Beenox and Toys for Bob, the two developing teams who also pooled together on Fortune's Keep. Beenox has been a developing team on Call of Duty titles since 2015, after the Activision-owned company helped with the making of Black Ops 3, before becoming the leading party on PC ports for the franchise.

Toys for Bob has also been working on Warzone in the past but has also pooled in on Activision's Overwatch. Fortune's Keep proved to be quite a hit with the resurgence and larger-BR communities, offering a bright and vibrant design compiled with typically nifty Call of Duty gameplay elements.

It appears that together Beenox and Toys for Bob will take over the resurgence development, while Infinity Ward, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer Games will lead the main map's development for their respective eras as they roll around.
