It was branded "Call of Duty 2.0". A brand-new era of the shooting franchise that has become a multi-times annual best seller. Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 were supposed to reignite the passion that CoD fans have set aside in recent years.

This much was true: Call of Duty fans' passionate flames was transformed from simmering embers to a full-blown bonfire with the news of the two sequels and a new era announced.

But since the games flew off the shelves, players have become abundantly bored with the franchise, and just two months after Warzone's release, the numbers have plummeted. Now, the fires are millimetres away from turning to ash.

Warzone 2 Player Count Is Dropping

According to insiders Charlie Intel, the Warzone 2 player count has been dropping at a "higher rate than expected" following the holidays break.

A decrease in players was expected as the original hype began to die down, but instead of the counts plateauing to a steady rate of everyday players, it appears that more and more Warzone 2 fans are not returning.

"This is a nice way of saying Warzone 2 is underperforming at an alarming rate 2 months after launch," added another in-the-know page, Modern Warzone.

Why Are Warzone 2 Players Ditching The Game Already?

Warzone 2 has now been out for two months, and not a single new mode has been added, while the meta persists as the RPK and Fennec duo which it has been since day one. Ultimately, players are bored of the same old things.

Season 2 has now reportedly been delayed, meaning the leaked modes such as Plunder - and even the possibility of having a resurgence map - are pushed back even further.

Players are fed up with loading into the same game over and over again, and with the title suffering from a lack of speed and intuition, the likes of Fortnite and Apex Legends are benefiting instead.
