Oh boy, the Call of Duty arcade shooter folk aren't ready for the real trials and tribulations of the extraction shooter genre.

Just like Escape From Tarkov does every season, your entire progress within the new DMZ mode is about to be deleted. If you've racked up a wealth of stronghold keys and cards while working towards a ten-exfil streak, you might want to throw caution to the wall.

As of Modern Warfare 2 Season 2, all of your DMZ progress is getting deleted... permanently.

Although the experimental DMZ mode is getting a brand-new map alongside AI balances and new challenges in Season 2, Infinity Ward has revealed that players' progress will be wiped in Season 2.

In the recent Call of Duty blog post, Infinity Ward confirmed, "All-new missions are coming to Season 02 including a refresh of your current Faction mission progress and an inventory (Contraband and Keys) reset."

The refresh will see all of your contraband weapons returned to Al Mazrah alongside keys, cards, backpacks, armour vests, and any other saveable customisation items. All challenges will also be reset and you'll start Season 2 with the basic set to complete first.

DMZ Players Aren't Happy With Season 2 Wipe

"As someone who plays extraction shooters and suffers Tarkov regularly, even I thought wipe was odd for DMZ," quizzed one player when the news was shared by the @ModernWarzone Twitter account.

"The game doesn’t have any particular progression in terms of gear or skills etc so why? The most significant change you can achieve is an extra prebuilt weapon slot?"

Another enraged shooter added, "Yea I don't know why this is a thing, they should be building onto it and not resetting all my Tier 5 factions. Doesn't quite make sense, but I won’t be re-doing all the missions again, so prolly done with DMZ."

Other players are also annoyed at the mission refreshes too, with many being stuck on the blowtorch mission and the chance at extracting the contraband that comes with it for their multiplayer Gunsmith.

The general consensus is that a factory reset on DMZ is unnecessary, given there's been no real reward for their efforts in the last two months. However, new challenges will unlock the motivation to play again, for now.
