The Steam Deck might not have truly dominated the Nintendo Switch as was once theorised, but even so, the PC gaming peripheral has remained an incredibly strong entry from Valve into the hardware world.

The brick of PC components has given players the chance to play almost anything on the Steam platform in their hands and on the go, and has been a very welcome twist on the PC gaming experience, trading the keyboard and mouse for thumbsticks and trackpads.

And though we haven't had it long at all, Valve is already keen to keep the lineage of Steam Decks moving.

Not only has Valve revealed that a successor to the Steam Deck is on the way, but also that they don't intend to stop there.

A marketing booklet for the Steam Deck has been released for the promotion of the console in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong, and it has revealed that Valve are intending to take the Steam Deck further.

"This is a multi-generational product line," reads the booklet. "Valve will support Steam Deck and SteamOS well into the foreseeable future. We will learn from the Steam community about new uses for our hardware that we haven't thought of yet, and we will build new versions to be even more open and capable than the first version of Steam Deck has been."

This is great news for fans of the original Deck, as it means that PC may have just officially entered the console wars, and if Nintendo intends to keep up their approach to console-handheld hybrids, they've got some fresh competition.

When Will The Second Steam Deck Come Out?

It's hard to tell right now when we'll see the arrival of another Steam Deck, as the first model is sitting comfortably in its first year of release.

If we're judging by the typical length of a console generation, under the presumption that Steam will be following suit, then maybe 2029 or 2030 is the year that the Steam Deck gets its upgrade.

It's exciting news, and if the lineage of consoles from Valve keeps up, we could be getting a serious new competitor in the hardware space. Bring it on.
