It should’ve been a refreshing moment for streamers playing Call of Duty: Warzone for a living, but the launch of the battle royale’s new Pacific map, its new guns and skins, and a plethora of never-ending bugs have been a major nuisance to those who were hoping for some novelty in their games.

The writing was already on the wall, but now, those broadcasters had enough and are joining their peers in the rival Battle Royale Apex Legends. Well, who didn't see that coming?

Who Has Left The Warzone Ship?

To spell out the full list of issues that Warzone has been experiencing in the first month of its launch would likely deplete all virtual ink on the web. From unintended bugs like the Battle Pass Level 100 skin turning players invisible to infuriating design decisions like Krampus, it has been pure chaos for players wanting to enjoy the new experience.

The gun meta has also been a source of great frustration with shotguns like the Einhorn Revolving and the Double Barrel completely ruining all close-range fight encounters by one- or two-shotting opponents on arguably too long ranges.

Another fan-favourite is the bug turned exploit which allows owners of premium throwing knives to keep their loadout after returning from the Gulag or being spawned into the map - avoiding the need to ever touch a loadout to get their hands on whatever busted setup they are running.

Server stability issues, performance problems, and fatal errors sending the players directly back to their desktop have added to the pile of annoyances players had to deal with. Now imagine doing that for eight to twelve hours a day while thousands of viewers at best can experience Schadenfreude, at worst see their favourite streamer suffer through and you got yourself plenty of reasons to switch games.

Who is switching and why to APEX Legends?

One of the most popular Warzone content creators and players for the Call of Duty League team NYSL, Aydan "Aydan" Conrad announced his indefinite switch to Apex Legends yesterday on his Twitter account, citing issues with the game and requiring those to be fixed first before he would consider a comeback to the title.

During his first full-day Apex stream, he went for eight hours and visibly enjoyed the new experience while playing through the ranked queue, a feature he had previously advocated for in Warzone. To this day, Warzone has not had a ladder to climb on and has only utilised a hidden MMR system to balance individual lobbies.

Previously, other huge Warzone streamers like NICKMERCS had made the jump to Respawn Entertainment’s battle royale, enjoying big success both in their live viewership and YouTube content creation numbers.

Despite launching a year before Warzone, EA’s APEX Legends has undergone a resurgence of player interest due to frequent content injections, taking advantage of a perceived fall from grace from many other Battle Royales on the market.
