What happened to the simpler days of The Sims where the biggest threat to life was forgetting to put up a smoke alarm or us vengeful overlords taking away the stairs to the pool? These days, anything and everything can kill you - with even telescopes raining down deadly meteorites.

It's been 22 years since Maxis first moved The Sims into the neighbourhood, and it's clear we're not running out of ideas when it comes to imaginative deaths. Jump forward to The Sims 4 deaths, you have to watch out for standards like old age and depression alongside weird and wacky demises like the Cow Plant and Rabid Rodent Fever. Still, one is more famous than the rest.

Can Beds Kill You In The Sims 4?

The name Murphy Bed should send shivers down your spine at its mere mention, as this lethal piece of kit can have you shuffling off to the Grim Reaper. Introduced in The Sims 2: Apartment Life, the Murphy "Hide-Away" Bed had a tendency to kill Sims if they were in a bad mood or had a low Body skill. In The Sims 3, accidents happened more often but rarely resulted in death.

It wouldn't be The Sims without the Murphy Bed, and although we were disappointed it didn't arrive as part of The Sims 4 University Life, an electronic version eventually returned for The Sims 4: Tiny Living Stuff. If you didn't repair the broken bed, it is likely to kill you. Having another death to dodge is annoying to some, but fear not, you don't need to worry about the Murphy Bed any longer.

Over on Nexus Mods, there's the Murphy Bed No Fail mod. Protecting Sims from the night from hell, it completely removes the ability for the Murphy Bed to kill you while repairing it. We've seen previous mods that reduce the death rate of the bed, but this is a new one. Although the mod won't work with other Murphy Bed mods, you won't need any.

What's New In The Sims 4?

The big news is that The Sims 4 is getting a massive high school expansion. After the recent arrival of werewolves, things are getting hairier with the long-requested feature of body hair. Previously, The Sims gave male Sims the ability to have a small selection of beards, but all of that is about to change.

Normally, your Sims would just be packed off to school and you never knew what they got up to. Now, we're opening the doors of Copperdale High as your Sims get to date, go through puberty, and have the awkwardness of prom. At least your troubled teens will be safe from the wrath of the Murphy Bed - well, if you install the mod.
