Death is never far away in Maxis' The Sims, and some 22 years after we first waved hello to the Goth Family and tried to build our dream home, we've come a long way. There are thousands of items to fill your home with, but be careful what you buy because some can lead to an early grave. Remember when the Tragic Clown painting was the most cursed item?

Back then, death was relatively simple, like your Sim getting caught in a house fire or someone taking the steps away from the pool and making them swim into oblivion. These days, death is imaginative... to say the least. The Sims 4: Werewolves DLC has added a deadly telescope that can kill you.

What Is The Deadly Sims 4 Telescope?

Previously, there were complaints that The Sims 4 only had one telescope. We weren't aware you'd need more than one kind of telescope to look at the stars, but the main problem was that the Backyard Observatory lived up to its name and took up a tonne of space.

The Sims 4 patch 131 reintroduces a more functional telescope, with this pocket version letting you take it on the go and view it from anywhere. You still have the Backyard Observatory as an "astronomical love shack," but the Back Pocket Observatory is a little more practical. Unfortunately, it comes with a bizarre feature that can see you being taken out by a meteorite.

Posting on Reddit, u/abidoang pointed out that if you're killed by a falling meteorite, your ghost will display a piece of space rock in the middle of your ghost. Much like the games and expansions, ghosts have also evolved. Depending on what killed you, your ghost will display a symbol. For example, those killed by vampires will display a sun symbol, those killed by vending machines have a spinning soda can, and if a poisonous rabbit kills you, well, you get the idea.

What Else Is In The New Update?

The big news from the world of The Sims 4 is the fact that Werewolves are back. We're hungry like the wolf to see the return of these supernatural beings, and as an official blog post reminds us, Lunar cycles are now a thing. As well as different phases of the Moon affecting you in different ways, occult Sims will be especially different. During certain phases, Mermaids will have less hydration loss, Vampires recharge slower, and Aliens can get a special moodlet while moonbathing.

We knew The Sims 4 was about to drop a tonne of content, but was a deadly telescope that can cause meteorites to crush you like an ant really on anyone's list of expectations? At least if you see a ghost with a piece of rock floating in the middle, you'll know how they died. As a final aside, you might notice the return of the iconic "reticulating splines" tip. What a day to be alive... or a ghost.
