Lady Dimitrescu could be spreading her wings once again, as it turns out the recent edition of The Game Awards might've been hiding a secretive Resident Evil announcement. And no, it's not a WarioWare-style game where Ethan Winters loses his hand in various minigames.

2021 was a big one for Capcom's shuffling shooter series, thanks to the much-hyped Resident Evil Village. While RE7 adopted a back to basics approach that leaned into the franchise's horror roots, Village took this in a wild new direction.

With a dash of Resident Evil 4's's gothic aesthetic, Village was much more than just a continuation. Thankfully, the story doesn't end there. Despite news that at least one DLC is on the way, players are no closer to figuring out what that could be. Or are they?

What's The Secret Resident Evil Village Announcement?

The Game Awards celebrated Capcom's success with Village being nominated for Game of the Year, Best Audio Design, Best Action/Adventure Game, Players' Voice, and Maggie Robertson winning Best Performance for her role as Lady Alcina Dimitrescu.

It was It Takes Two that won the most prestigious award for Game of the Year, but it's here that some think a secret Resident Evil announcement was made. Before the award was announced, an orchestra played music from each of the games over footage. The thing is, the Village footage was something brand-new.

Eagle-eyed gamers noted that the footage appeared to show Ethan Winters shot from a third-person perspective (reminiscent of RE4) - rather than Village's standard first-person view. This could be a simple mistake, but thanks to Game Awards host Geoff Keighley sharing the scene alongside a side-eye emoji, the internet is in a frenzy.

Some have suggested Keighley has the inside track on that mythical Village DLC. Remembering RE7 had two that helped catapult the story forward, we're excited to see what could be on the way. Then again, Village's ending leant itself to Resident Evil 9 rather than a story expansion for Ethan and Chris.

Is There More To The Story?

Let's open the doors of Castle Dimitrescu to speculation. A common theory is that Capcom is about to release a massive update that would let you play Village in third-person. This would definitely add some replayability, however, could it also be a tease of the aforementioned RE4

For as long as we can remember, there have been claims that Capcom is working on a current-gen remaster of 2005's GameCube classic. Following 2019's Resident Evil 2 remake and last year's Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, we've been waiting for official word on Resident Evil 4's revamp. Sorry Code: Veronica

RE4 was supposedly on the cards in that massive Capcom data leak, while the name also cropped up in the Nvidia datamine. We're just speculating here, however, The Game Awards would've been the perfect time to make an announcement. For now, we're locked up in Lady D's dungeon of despair until Mr. Keighley lets us know more.
