It's held as one of the greatest horror games of all time, so isn't it about time Silent Hill 2 got the remake justice it deserves? Yep, forget your Alien: Isolation, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and Resident Evil 7 - we'd still say RE4 has it licked - Konami's Silent Hill 2 is a legend in its own right.

For the past year (if not longer), we've been hit with whispers of a new-gen Silent Hill, multiple games from various developers, and a possible resurrection of Silent Hills. It seems like only yesterday we were telling you to give up on that tormented town, but now, the hellfires are burning brightly.

Is Silent Hill 2 Getting A Remake?

Just days after images leaked online that showed off a true sequel to the series, we're hearing that Bloober Team is working on a new-gen Silent Hill 2 remake for PlayStation 5. Remembering that the chilling classic was first released in 2001 and remastered as part of Silent Hill: The HD Collection in 2012, we're overdue a revisit to Pyramid Head's debut

Posting on Twitter, Nate the Hate claims Bloober Team is crafting the remake, which will be separate from the project that was leaked the other day. Although they say "not confirmed," it was enough to send the internet into a flurry. Bloober is known for horror outings like Layers of Fear 2 and Blair Witch, while the studio has previously been linked to Silent Hill through major Konami and Sony deals.

Nate's leaks are backed up by VentureBeat's Jeff Grubb, who said, "The stuff I've seen lines up with Konami doing a big reveal at E3 last year before it pulled out." Not everyone is sold though. One critic grumbled, "The original will always exist so I cant say I'm passionately against it but Bloober Team is pretty hard to stomach for something as important as Silent Hill 2."

All Might Not Be What It Seems

This is all a very nice idea, but let's delve a little deeper. Last July, Bloober told IGN it definitely wasn't attached to anything Silent Hill. Bloober CMO Tomasz Gawlikowski said that two games it registered under codenames weren't set in Silent Hill. "At Bloober Team we have two active internal projects, one in the production phase and one in the pre-production phase," said Gawlikowski. "Both are going to be bigger in scope than The Medium, however, neither of them is based on themes or premises that have been circulating online in the last days."

Things could've changed, but it would be a strange turn of events if Bloober hadn't been involved with the franchise and was suddenly brought on board for Silent Hill 2. It looks increasingly likely that at least something related to Konami's forgotten frightfest is just around the corner, and with E3 on the way, we'd put our money on an announcement. The question is, what (if anything) will be revealed? Let's hope Mira the Shiba has been a good girl.
