In space, no one can hear you scream. If you've been watching the likes of Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest or the Bethesda x Microsoft showcase, you'll know sci-fi games are the order of the day. Another one crawling out of the dark abyss of the cosmos is Ebb Software's Scorn. And now, we finally have a Scorn release date.

Scorn is described as a "biopunk" survival horror that very much takes its influence from H. R. Giger. If you haven't heard of Giger, he was the Swiss artist best-known for creating Alien's Xenomorphs. His renowned work is remembered around the world, and it turns out, is still influencing video games.

Scorn Release Date:

We now have a Scorn release date of October 21 thanks to the latest Microsoft showcase. The much-anticipated title will also arrive as a Day One release for Game Pass. As the industry embraces its new-gen potential, Ebb has also confirmed that Scorn will be an Xbox Series exclusive.

In Scorn you play as a "skinless humanoid," so as you can imagine, the latest trailer is filled with plenty of fleshy nasties. The developer has also made it clear that Scorn shouldn't be considered a shooter. We imagine you'll spend most of the campaign running around through an alien labyrinth and avoiding the hellish creatures that reside inside.

While Sony's Jim Ryan and Take-Two Interactive's Strauss Zelnick don't have much love for Game Pass - and claim it's a business model that doesn't work - it clearly does for Microsoft. Earlier this year, Game Pass topped 25 million subscribers and left PlayStation's Plus and Now subscription services in the dust. Things have gotten that bad, PlayStation has completely revamped its offering

What Else Do We Know About Scorn?

If you don't know about Scorn it's a suitably batsh*t concept. According to Scorn's official synopsis, you "awaken in the middle of a desolate and decayed hellscape; a once industrious civilization now lay in ruin. Surrounded by nightmarish, biomechanical contraptions, you must explore your environment to progress" - sounds cheery.

Scorn was originally started via Kickstarter in 2016 but has since grown into something much bigger. It was slated for an October 2918 release, so four years late is a pretty big delay. Even if Scorn isn't a full-blown Alien game akin to Alien: Isolation, at least we've got Aliens: Dark Descent to fill that void.
