Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City’s first trailer has finally launched, to - how do we put this delicately - a lukewarm response. Die-hard fans of the franchise are happy just to see the likes of the Spencer Mansion and the RPD Station recreated on the big screen before our very eyes, and while some of the casting is completely brilliant, the film still looks a little… amateur.

Welcome to Raccoon City could yet be an absolute banger and surprise us all, but judging by this one trailer, we might not be in for the cinematic masterpiece that the original Resident Evil games deserve. Except this isn’t the only trailer. Another trailer debuted overseas, and has suggested that maybe, the film won’t be so bad after all.

Resident Evil’s International Trailer Is Much Different To Ours

A new cut of the trailer for Resident Evil: Welcome To Raccoon City has been revealed, and it indicates a very different film from the one we expected after watching the original trailer.

The trailer confirms that the film’s protagonist will be Claire Redfield, who in this iteration of the first two games, wants to expose the Umbrella Corporation for their human experimentation. Claire enlists the help of Leon Kennedy, while Chris explores the Spencer Mansion with his S.T.A.R.S compatriots.

It looks much less… dull than the first trailer that we saw, and implies some exciting things about the film - though fans are still curious as to why the first film in what could be a franchise is using the plots from two different Resident Evil games up.

Why Is Welcome To Raccoon City Using Two Plots In One Film?

Many fans are still confused as to why the plots of both Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 are contributing to the plot of Welcome To Raccoon City, and chances are, it’s a flop-prevention measure.

Making a film that features two games’ worth of plots will naturally bring out more fans, and if the film tanks at the box office (brace for impact, because it’s increasingly likely), at least the fans will have seen a semi-faithful adaptation of both games might push it to cult-classic status.

Who knows how the Resident Evil movie will perform, but at the very least, we’re finally seeing the first two games come to life on the silver screen - for better or worse.
