Shipmas has been and gone. The tinsel that decked the halls of death has been ripped down, the baubles packed away, and those stupid tracer rounds that obliterated us into coal 50 times a day will see the light of day no more.

But the holiday season isn't officially over, and as the chimes began to ring on Big Ben ten days ago, it appears that the Call of Duty developers had something in mind to celebrate.

Heading into 2023 - one of Call of Duty's most pivotal years in its lifeline with the Microsoft acquisition pending - Activision added a cool new Easter Egg into Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2.

Call of Duty's New Years Easter Egg Is Just Being Found

Although the new year passed over a week ago, players are just now finding out that there has been an Easter Egg added since the year turned.

Reddit user "TNT_Jonathan" found that if a player is killed near a wall, their blood splatter pattern reveals a crimson-red "'23".

The Reddit user also revealed another of the Easter Eggs says "Happy New Year" in the same ruby blood spill. Not everyone was impressed though, as one critic seemingly joked, "Definitely worth $20."

Well, at least your cosmetic came with something a little extra to soften the blow of its cost.

More Weapon Easter Eggs Have Been Added To MW2

Despite being relatively unknown, this Easter Egg specifically is marooned to just the weapons found in the Tracer Pack: New Year's Bundle (the Countdown Lachmnaa-556 Blueprint and the Party Popper .50 GS Blueprint).

However, it appears there are more weapons with similar Easter Eggs already added to the game, as the Christmas-themed M13B from Klaus' bundle also splatters "naughty" or "nice" onto nearby surfaces.

This could set the precedent for future bundles too, given that Modern Warfare 2019 also had a similar feature. For instance, remember the Mary Jane-inspired skin would leave a puff of smoke behind.
