Just as the console wars began to stifle, Microsoft's potential acquisition of Activision Blizzard has been put under the microscope thanks to the Call of Duty franchise.

It comes alongside Sony rolling out more exclusive blockbusters like God of War Ragnarok, with Xbox and PlayStation at each other's necks for the better part of two years - since their new-gen consoles launched.

These days, it's complications surrounding the future of Call of Duty and its console exclusivity that have heightened the animosity. Now, Xbox has twisted the knife in the back of PlayStation by signing on the dotted line of a Nintendo contract.

Xbox Sign Call of Duty Deal With Nintendo

According to Xbox head Phil Spencer, Microsoft has entered an agreement which will see all future Call of Duty titles on the Nintendo Switch.

This landmark moment sees a 10-year deal formed that will bring Call of Duty to Switch and any further consoles made by Nintendo.

Spencer also told The Washington Post that there is an opportunity for old games to be remastered for the Switch too, which could see fan favourites like Black Ops 2 and Call of Duty 4 be brought out once again.

Microsoft President Brad Smith also tweeted that Xbox will also be happy to sign the same deal with Sony, and all they need to do is ask before they "hammer out" the details.

Call of Duty Players Can’t Wait To Farm Nintendo Switch Christmas Noobs

With Call of Duty coming to Switch, the developers could continue their cross-platform and cross-progressional approach to the franchise. It means the average skill base of the players may drop significantly.

Typical of the old-dev approach, fans are now looking forward to a wealth of "Christmas noobs" that could infiltrate the multiplayer playlists with cross-play - spinning their minds back to the golden age of pub-stomping.

Shared on Twitter by @ModernWarzone, the account writes: "If Call of Duty stays fully crossplay and they throw Nintendo Switch players in the matchmaking pool it's gonna be like Christmas morning in 2012 when Black Ops 2 was thriving."

It's a shame SBMM will defend Nintendo Switch, should cross-play even be added. However, it's Call of Duty from the comfort of your couch and cafes, so what's not to be excited about?
