New God Of War Release Date Leaked Online
The end is nigh, and as Sony Santa Monica Studio prepares to bring the Norse saga to an end, God of War Ragnarok is primed to be one of this year's biggest games. Despite those wild rumours the AAA title would be pushed back to 2023, we're assured it's coming in 2022. The question is, when?
As the sequel to 2018's soft God of War reboot, Ragnarok was originally scheduled for release last year. It would've put it up against the likes of Resident Evil Village, Far Cry 6, and Metroid Dread, but now, it's taking on goliaths including Horizon Forbidden West, Elden Ring, and Breath of the Wild 2. Still, Ragnarok has the chops to be Game of the Year.
When Is God Of War Ragnarok Releasing?
The months are ticking by, and yet, we still don't have a God of War Ragnarok release date. Now, a Chilean site has leaked a potential June release date. On Juegos Digitales Chile, there's a placeholder for God of War Ragnarok alongside an option to pre-order.
It's a rather sketchy listing and with no actual fixed date in June offered, so we'll take a pinch of salt with this one. It is possible the site simply had a placeholder for the first half of the year and hasn't updated it yet. Also, it's not uncommon for smaller retailers to publish the wrong information.
If this had been a bigger retailer like Walmart or one of the other gaming giants, we'd excitedly be circling June in the diary. As it stands, we're not too sure. Then again, remember that God of War was released in April 2018. Horizon Forbidden West was released in March, so leaving a three-month gap until the next big PlayStation exclusive also sounds feasible.
When Will We Know More About God Of War Ragnarok?
We're not sure why Sony is playing the long game with God of War Ragnarok's release, but it's likely to do with the worries that locking in a release date means you'll have to stick to it. The last thing we want is a game with as much hype as Ragnarok getting the Cyberpunk 2077 treatment and being released as a hot mess.
Across the board, the video game industry seems pretty cautious right now. We also know Hogwarts Legacy and Breath of the Wild 2 are releasing at some point this year, but once again, there's no concrete release window.
Given those continued whispers of a massive Sony State of Play coming soon, we're expecting to finally get a God of War Ragnarok release date then. With Thor waiting in the frozen wilds, it sounds like it's not quite 'hammer time' just yet.
