With esports adopted by such a young audience that was moulded with games as their childhood, it’s not uncommon to see fresh new professionals on the scene try and juggle school work with their streams, scrims, and tournaments. Rocket League and Fortnite pros often face the menial task of finishing college work before jumping on for a day of practice, with the minimum age requirements for their titles recently being lowered to 13 years old.

However, it's not common for someone to drop out of college, work at McDonald’s, pioneer a whole esports scene, win an X-Games gold medal, retire, launch one of the most successful organisations in esports, and then go back to competing to be the oldest college competitor in esports.

Well, that’s the next goal in the saga of Matthew "Nadeshot" Haag. The former Call of Duty champion turned 100 Thieves owner has expressed his desire to return to a playing career, albeit not in the way of pulling on one of his own jerseys and joining the LA Thieves.

Nadeshot Talks of returning to Collegiate level esports

Collegiate level esports has begun to surge in popularity, especially within the Call of Duty scene as universities have offered scholarships to rival the second-tier Challengers scene, even picking up former world champion and recent CDL veteran Justin "SiLLy" Fargo-Palmer.

Now, Nadeshot could be the next star to light up the collegiate level esports scene as he took to social media to quiz whether he would still have NCAA eligibility having dropped out of college in his sophomore year.

Having cracked open the books on a two-year Business Studies course at Moraine Valley Community College, Nadeshot has now called on schools to offer a scholarship as he aims to be "the first 30-year-old D1 Esports player. Call of Duty or Valorant."

Nadeshot Jokes Of A Harvard Esports Career

According to the Esports Director at Maryville College, Dan "Clerkie" Clerke, Nadeshot wouldn’t actually need NCAA eligibility to play for a collegiate team, with the same college also chirping in with "let’s talk", after bragging about being a three-time national championship esports college.

However, he may be eyeing a more prestigious university. Always one for shooting for the stars, the 100 Thieves founder joked, "Nadeshot goes to Harvard would be an incredible TikTok mini-series," although he’d likely have to start his own team there.

Nadeshot remains a skilled player in both Call of Duty and VALORANT, having a storied career in the former whilst learning much about the ins and outs of a professional VALORANT team.

Whether he can come back to be as good as he was in his prime X-Games form, or come across a HBR-esque mind-block, is yet to be seen. Maybe, he might come back to lead a collegiate team to glory before perching his feet back in his Gucci slippers and writing another chapter in his esports story.
