The rumour mill has been a-working, and this time, it's Sony and PlayStation that has become the subject.

2022 has become the year of the acquisition in the gaming industry, starting with Microsoft's whopping purchase of Activision Blizzard, and with other companies following suit to compete in the new prospective sector that relies on its biggest buy-outs. PlayStation has already bagged Bungie, and it looks like they're eyeing up others.

Kojima Productions, home of video game auteur Hideo Kojima and the team behind Death Stranding, were rumoured to be coming to the PlayStation team - but the man has come forward to set the record straight.

Kojima Breaks Silence On Rumoured PlayStation Purchase

Hideo Kojima, Head of Kojima Productions, has finally come forward to break his silence on the rampant rumours that his company was about to join the fold of PlayStation Studios. And he's been a bit of a troll about it, frankly.

Kojima took to Twitter to make his first comment on the rumours - without making a comment. He simply shared the image, the cover photo of PlayStation Studios games featuring Death Stranding that started the rumours, with no comment. Cheeky.

He then followed up with a quote tweet, suggesting that he didn't actually mean to hint at more speculation.

"I seem to have invited misinterpretation, but KojiPro has been and will continue to be an independent production studio."

What Would PlayStation Buying Kojima Productions Mean?

Though it looks like Kojima wants to keep his company to himself, players have been wondering what it would mean if the Death Stranding team came to PlayStation. And to be honest, it probably wouldn't mean a lot.

It might be for the best that Kojima & Co are staying independent, as given their dedication to bringing their games to PlayStation consoles, their addition to the roster wouldn't serve as much more than a trophy for Sony. And frankly, that's a big price to pay for something for the mantle.

Either way, we're confident that Kojima Productions is still going to turn out banger after banger for PlayStation even without the marriage. It'd be stupid of PlayStation to buy them for millions, anyway - especially when you can just buy Death Stranding for about £15 from Argos.
