On paper, Team Vitality pose as one of the most fearsome teams in League of Legends, with a world-class pedigree player in every role. However, a 9-9 league play record in the LEC Spring Split was the unmasking of their facade, and the wounded roster was pummeled into the dirt by a reformed G2 Esports roster who opted for teamwork over stars in the off-season.

Having rescued Luka "Perkz" Perković from a potential retirement, amid a return to the LEC from America and an ongoing battle with G2 owner Carlos "Ocelote" Rodríguez Santiagos meaning he couldn't go to Fnatic, Team Vitality opted to build a 'super team' around the mid-laner. The additions of Barney "Alphari" Morris, also returning to the LEC from America, and Matyáš "Carzzy" Orság had Vitality fans purring with excitement, although performances for the super squad have yet to translate.

After dumping Vitality from the LEC Spring Playoffs, MVP of the game and Perkz's former teammate Marcin "Jankos" Jankowski has revealed that he believes super teams don't work.

Jankos Claims LEC Meta Doesn't Allow For Super Teams

After drumming Vitality 3-0, Jankos admitted that team compositions are more important than individual stars. Speaking in a post-match interview with The Loadout, Jankos said, "The game is currently played way more as a team than as individuals. So, even if you have a super team that consists of five great individuals, if you don’t play well as a team, I don’t think you’re going to win."

The Polish veteran then compared the current Vitality roster to that of last seasons' G2 squad that failed to make the World Championships for the first time since 2015.

Jankos may speak on behalf of failed superteams following G2's dismal 2021 season, where the addition of Bot-lane heavyweight Martin "Rekkles" Larsson simply didn't suit the overall composition, leaving himself and Mihael "Mikyx" Mehle to be benched for fresh faces.

Previously, Jankos admitted that Rekkles and the rest of the G2 roster had "different ideas of how to play League of Legends," which lead to his transfer to Karmine Corp and was replaced by Victor "Flakked" Lirola Raphaël "Targamas" Crabbé.

It might not all be doom and gloom for Vitality though, as Jankos would know, and has offered an insight into how they can turn around their misfortune.

He continued to say, "I feel like the meta doesn’t play into their favour right now because Oskar "Selfmade" Boderek feels way more free on carry-junglers," offering a silver lining for Vitality.

However, Vitality's chance in the Spring Split is now over, whilst G2 Esports will continue their surge back towards the top of the LEC with a Losers' Final versus Fnatic.
