While Final Fantasy 14 has been flourishing lately thanks to the Endwalker expansion and Final Fantasy 15 still retaining around a thousand players on PC at any given time, many diehard fans of the series are looking ahead to Final Fantasy 16, which we were due to hear more information on before the year came to a close.

Where's The Final Fantasy 16 News?

In a statement made earlier this week by Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida, he explains that COVID-19 has had a severe impact on the development process. Most of the workforce moved to a work-from-home system, which has "hampered communication from the Tokyo office" and in turn, has "led to delays in, or cancellations of, asset deliveries from outsource partners".

He explains that the team has spent most of 2021 addressing this issue and that come 2022, the team will be better focused on the following: increasing graphic resource quality, refining combat mechanics, fleshing out individual battles, putting the finishing touches on cutscenes, and overall graphical optimisation.

This news comes right as we were expecting some new details on the game, but it's not all doom and gloom.

When Will We Know More About Final Fantasy 16?

Even though we're still sat patiently waiting to hear more about the next main Final Fantasy instalment and this delay means we've got to wait even longer, Yoshida explained there will be a "big reveal" coming in Spring 2022.

What this reveal will contain exactly is still to be determined, but it's safe to say gameplay and a confirmed release date could be on the cards.
