Well, it has happened. We're in his domain now. The world's richest man and perpetually online business giant Elon Musk has rallied his hordes and finally made good on his bid to buy the social media platform Twitter.
There are a lot of concerns for Twitter now, as users expect that Musk's vision of "free speech" will transform it into a hive of right-wing spoutings and conspiracy theories that cast a haze over the truth - but for now, all we know are the special reports coming out via news outlets. In particular, one has seen Musk come out to decry.
Elon Musk Denies Rumours Of Mass Twitter Layoffs
A recent report from The New York Times has suggested that Elon Musk has made plans to make some mass layoffs across Twitter, with claims across social media seemingly pointing towards around 75% of the company being made redundant or sacked. But, Musk has come forward to deny it all.
Responding to a tweet by Eric Umansky that pointed out that the layoffs would take place before November 1, Musk simply says "this is false." Hm. November 1 is a significant date because it's set to be the day that employees will receive stock grants in the company,
Loving a bit of fake news himself, sharing links from alt-right conspiracy theory-peddlers in the past, it's hard to determine if Musk is telling the truth here - but as other reports indicate, he's got his sights set on a different goal.
Twitter Will Reportedly Be Charging $20 A Month For Verification
According to a new report from The Verge, a revamping of the Twitter verification system from Musk will now entail a $20 per month charge for users to keep their blue ticks. It's unknown if this means that users will be able to just buy their own ticks, which would completely overhaul the reason they exist in the first place.
It seems as though existing verified users aren't going to keep being that way for free. If this comes to be true, then at least it gives us something - a good reason to bully the verified users on Twitter for actually paying for it.
