An R-Rated God Of War Movie Could Be On The Way
An R-rated God of War movie could be on the way, which means all kinds of blood, gore, and potentially more (no rhyme intended). With so many different game adaptations coming to the silver screen, as well a TV series, it makes sense that one of the best games of all time will follow suit.
What's Been Said About A God Of War Movie?
The rumours have been flying around for a while, but an interview with the creator of the Spartacus series (that's featured on Starz), who also worked on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, gave a little more insight into what we could expect.
Steven DeKnight sat down with ComicBook.com back in 2018 to discuss what had been said to him about a potential movie, and how he saw it coming together. He said: "It's funny because when I sat down with the Sony PlayStation people, one of the first things we both said is R-rated because I always use the original Conan the Barbarian as my touchstone, that it needs to be R-rated.
"I don't think there's a way to tell that story and make it PG, nor should it be. And thankfully because of Deadpool, people are much more willing to try that R-rated there with genre work now, again. So, yeah, without a doubt R-rated. I mean not on as far as Spartacus, that was more NC-17, but definitely R-rated."
Do We Know Anything Else About A God Of War Movie?
With the release of Uncharted and The Last Of Us, rumours of a God of War movie have been swirling more than ever. So much so, that Sony was forced to deny that they're currently working on a movie or TV show.
Speaking to The New York Times, Sony said that contrary to speculation, one is not coming - "at least not any time soon". The key point to take away here is that they've said it's not 'any time soon' - so it could potentially be that they're gauging the popularity of other video game adaptations before they get the cameras rolling.
From what we can gather, Daniel Craig was once offered the role of Kratos, and there's also been rumours that Gerard Butler has been cast. Also, who could forget the brilliant brainwave that Nick Offerman could play the Ghost of Sparta? But we'll just have to wait and see what happens.
