Fortnite has revealed its new Limited Time Mode, Imposters, to a chorus of sighs. We should have expected an Among Us mode in Fortnite, frankly, what with the game’s capital dominance of intellectual properties everywhere and vice-grip on gaming culture. But, the game has fallen flat for many.

It simply doesn’t square up to the simplicity of the original Among Us, and overcomplicates the formula to such a degree that the mode doesn’t feel much like the game it’s trying to replicate - or even Fortnite for that measure.

And now, it seems like fans of the game aren’t the only ones disappointed by the way that Imposters has turned out.

The lack of contact between Epic Games and InnerSloth has clearly made an impact on one of the developers behind Among Us, as they’ve tweeted about how upset they are about the way Imposters has rolled out.

“It would’ve been really, really cool to collab haha”, says Victoria Tran, Community Director of the game. “Like game mechanics fine, those shouldn’t be gatekept, but at the very least even different themes or terminology makes things more interesting?”

It’s clear that more communication would have drastically improved the process of making Imposters, and even a full-on collab could have truly made it special. Instead, it seems like Epic thought themselves masters of all, and have sadly left InnerSloth on the outside.

Another member of the Among Us team has stepped forward to express their disappointment in Epic Games, with Adriel Wallick sharing a comic depicting someone stealing credit for someone else’s work. The sentiment is clearly that Epic has done the same.

“Anyway - just feeling pretty bummed today”, she continueD. “Everything in the world was already feeling insurmountable, so this was just another fun reminder of how tiny we all really are.”

It’s sad that even the developers of Among Us - one of the biggest games in the world that emerged from last year's pandemic - are made to feel small by Fortnite’s actions. Fingers crossed that Epic Games can come around with some kind of statement, because to be honest, these devoted developers deserve better.
