The TUNIC Gold Coins are a form of collectible that can be found in chests across the world, and despite being quite useful, it's not very obvious what their purpose is. TUNIC has a wide variety of things to find while exploring, but the game challenges you to discover what they do instead of outright telling you. So if you need to find where all the TUNIC Gold Coins are, along with what they are used for, we've got you covered.

  • For another method of gaining power in-game, check out our rundown of the TUNIC Upgrade Points locations.

TUNIC Gold Coins can be used to enhance your power, giving you more room to equip passives. Around TUNIC, you can find little square cards which can change how your kit works or give you passive buffs. They are all optional to use - except for one which is key to getting through the Quarry level - but they let you change up your play style a little more.

By default, you have room for one passive, but collecting three coins and depositing them in any well around the game will give you an extra slot. We're unsure what the maximum amount of passives that can be equipped are, but collecting all the coins will let you gain at least several spaces.

The first gold coin you'll likely come across can be found on the south beach in the Overworld area. Take the hidden path behind the windmill, just north of the town, and follow it until you come out near a turret and a ladder. Climb down the ladder onto the beach, and follow it along toward the waterfall. You can access a secret path behind the waterfall to carry on down the beach, eventually, you'll find a chest with the Gold Coin obscured by one of the bridges.

  • You'll need to know the TUNIC HP Pots locations, so you have the most amount of staying power in battle.

The next Gold Coin is located in the Dark Tomb, which is a dungeon you access from the Overworld. After making your way down into the tomb, you'll come across a room with spike traps on the floor. Progress through here into the next room with laser traps that point at a chest. If you go to the top right corner of the room, behind the statue there is a pathway you can walk down to find a chest in the dark.

The third Golden Coin in your adventure is located in the cave of spiders, below the Eastern Fortress. After making your way through the cave, and going through the corridor of jail cells you'll come into a room with some enemies and a pillar in the centre. On the opposite side of this room from where you enter, there are some wooden barrels blocking a hole in a wall. Destroy these and walk inside to find the next chest with a Golden Coin.

You will need the Magic Orb from the Frog's Domain for this next one. Navigate down to the beach like for the first Golden Coin, but keep walking left to get to a broken walkway over the water. There will be some turrets to kill, but you can use the Magic Orb on one to grapple to a platform with a chest. The fourth Golden Coin can be found here.

Once you head to the Quarry area in the game, work your way forward until you come to the respawn point located in the middle of some water. To your right, there should be a ladder that leads up to a snowy ledge with the fifth Golden Coin.

After awaking in the new world state once you've acquired all three gems, make your way to the Old Burying Ground. To the left of the first respawn point, you'll find a large crypt. Enter it to find the secret shop, where there should be two Golden Coins you can purchase.

From the respawn point in the Old Burying Ground, travel forward past the fence and then turn right to climb a ladder. From there you can make your way down and to the east of this area, and you'll eventually come across a large gravestone with a huge skeleton enemy. Get rid of the surrounding enemies, and then collect the Gold Coin from next to the gravestone.

For the next one, return to the respawn point and walk directly ahead past the pillar. You'll reach some ramps that lead you up to the top of the hill, and from there move right and down toward a chest underneath a dead tree. Inside the chest is the ninth Gold Coin.

After completing the Cathedral dungeon and coming back to the Old Burying Ground, go to the respawn point. Walk past the fence and turn right to climb up the ladder again, and then turn around and blink dash onto the fence. Keep blink dashing further down the fence, and then you can do the same onto a ledge with a chest. Open the chest for your tenth Gold Coin.

That's all for our breakdown of the TUNIC Gold Coins, and now you know what they do and where to find them. Make sure to check back as we update this guide with more locations, should we find more.
