Star Wars Eclipse: Trailer & Everything We Know
Having just been revealed at The Game Awards 2021, the Star Wars Eclipse release date has not been announced yet. Since the exclusivity rights for Star Wars games were taken away from EA, fans of the franchise have been salivating at the thought of other developers getting a chance to tackle the IP. Now a brand-new game has been announced by Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain developers, Quantic Dream, called Star Wars Eclipse.
We'd heard rumours of the David Cage-led studio working on a Star Wars game for a while, and there were even leaks that it would differ from their previous outings significantly. There isn't a tonne of official information to go off yet regarding the game, but there's certainly enough to be excited about. So read on for our breakdown of the Star Wars Eclipse release date, trailers, and more.
Is There A Star Wars Eclipse Release Date
The Star Wars Eclipse release date is largely a mystery right now. The Star Wars website announcement of the new game states that the game is still quite early in development, and considering the apparent scale and depth of the experience, it may be a long while off yet. Our best guesses would place it sometime in 2023 or later, with gameplay and more information coming sometime next year, but we'll update this guide when we have a better idea.
Star Wars Eclipse Trailers
So far we have only seen a cinematic trailer that was used to announce it during The Game Awards 2021. It contained a litany of different scenes, and took on quite a serious and dark tone that much Star Wars media tends to shy from.
It highlighted a lot of warfare, with space battles and armies mobilising throughout, and even a scene of two Jedi battling it out. Plenty of planets were shown off too, from backwater desert worlds to Coruscant, which even showed us a shot of a younger Yoda. Much of it is a vague spectacle, but Star Wars lore historians could likely glean a lot of obscure information from what we see.
Star Wars Eclipse Gameplay And Story
Click to enlargeBased on some previous leaks and information presented after Star Wars Eclipses' reveal, we know some things about the gameplay and story that will be present. It will take place in the High Republic era, which is set before the events of the Skywalker Saga, when the Jedi were at the height of their power and the Sith were very much under the radar.
A younger Yoda will also be in the game based on a screen from the trailer, but considering by the events of the original trilogy he is over 900 years old, it doesn't help to specify which year Eclipse will take place in. The Star Wars website tells us a little more about how the game is set to play out.
"Star Wars Eclipse will be an intricately branching action-adventure game that can be experienced in multiple ways, putting the destinies of an array of playable characters in your hands. Your choices will be at the heart of the experience, as every decision can have a dramatic impact on the course of the story. Through these decisions, players will forge their own legend in the golden age of the Jedi."
Based on this and the official game website, we know it will have a large focus on the narrative, featuring a branching storyline and an ensemble cast of characters with their own "morality, personality, motivations, and impact upon each other and the story at large."
Star Wars Eclipse Platforms
No platforms have been announced for the game yet, but considering how far the Star Wars Eclipse release date is likely to be, it should be a primarily new-generation experience and release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
