Shin Megami Tensei V Mitamas are one type of demon to take down in the game, amidst the myriad others. Most of your playthrough will be spent grinding for levels, money, and items by repeatedly defeating the same demons over and over again. There’s no denying that this can be a somewhat tedious process, but luckily for you, you have some options to speed things up a bit. If you’re new to Shin Megami Tensei V, you probably haven’t heard about Mitama enemies, rare spawns that reward the player with neat bonuses when defeated. With that in mind, we’re going to tell you everything you need to know about Shin Megami Tensei V Mitamas, their locations, weaknesses, and more.

Shin Megami Tensei V Mitamas Explained
Click to enlargeMitamas, like previously mentioned, are rare enemies that can be difficult to track down. In SMTV, there are four types of Mitama: Saki Mitama, Nigi Mitama, Ara Mitama, and Kushi Mitama. Each of these Mitama rewards the player with different bonuses, such as experience points and high-value items. However, taking one down is no easy task, as you have to play a guessing game to figure out its weakness. Essentially, a Mitama is only weak to one type of attack, and can block everything else, but will go down in one hit if you guess correctly.
Before we go over how to find these enemies, make sure you come prepared with a Spyglass, which you can purchase from Gustave at the Leiylene Crossing, and demons with a variety of elemental skills. Additionally, it’s also worth grabbing some elemental items, just in case you can’t fuse or summon a demon with a specific elemental skill.

Click to enlargeThese enemies are not easy to find, due to their valuable rewards for defeating them. With that in mind, there’s a high chance that you will be spending a multitude of hours grinding for them, so don’t get discouraged if you don’t find one straight away. However, you will want to start by investigating the exclamation marks on the map, as occasionally a Mitama will spawn. That being said, there’s also a chance that a Mitama will show up in a normal enemy encounter, but it’s a less reliable way to find one consistently.
As I previously mentioned, make sure you come equipped with a few Spyglasses, as they are extremely useful for discovering an enemy’s weakness. For instance, let’s say that a Nigi Mitama has decided to rock up. As soon as the battle starts, use a Spyglass, which will analyze the enemy data to inform you of its weakness. In this case, imagine that the Nigi Mitama just so happens to be weak to Fire skills. If you have a demon with Agi, use that to take advantage of its weakness to take it down in one fell swoop.

Depending on which Mitama you find in SMTV, the rewards will differ - each offering their own worthwhile bonuses. It can be difficult to manipulate which Mitama is discovered, though it’s still worth taking one down regardless of its typing. Saki Mitama

In my personal experience, the Saki Mitama were the most common, often appearing when I investigated exclamation marks on the world map. This demon will drop high-value items that can be sold to Gustave, allowing you to receive a decent amount of Macca to purchase worthwhile support items.
Nigi Mitama

An important element to take note of in SMTV is the Miracles system, which allows you to add passive skills and various upgrades to your protagonist. To acquire these, you will need to use a currency known as Glory and this is where the Nigi Mitama comes in handy. Upon defeat, this Mitama will raise your glory by 10, but that might not seem like a lot. However, Glory is a valuable resource, so even the smallest amount can be invaluable.
Ara Mitama

The Ara Mitama is useful when trying to level up specific demons in your party. As with most JRPGs, grinding can be a frustrating experience, so when there’s a chance to speed it up, take advantage of it. With that in mind, Ara Mitama enemies will raise the experience points of an ally, allowing them to level up after the next battle.
Kushi Mitama

Instead of leveling up one of your demon comrades, the Kushi Mitama will level up the Nahobino at the start of the next battle if defeated. However, I found the Ara and Kushi Mitama to be the most difficult to find, due to their ample upgrade for tracking them down.
