The Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer maps are diverse battlefields with new additions and returning favourites — all packaged together. The maps are perhaps one of the most critical aspects of a Call of Duty title like Modern Warfare 2. With that said, let's go over everything we know about the Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer maps.

Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Maps: 6v6 Maps

Core 6v6 Maps are the traditional Call of Duty multiplayer experience. These maps are usually designed for 6v6 battles and game modes like Team Deathmatch, Search and Destroy, and Hardpoint.

There are a total of ten MW2 maps made for 6v6 gameplay, so far, and more are expected to come in the future. Oh, and if you hated Musuem from the beta like the rest of us, be rest assured, it's been axed.

Al Bagra Fortress

The first landscape to uncover is Al Bagra, and it's a very old-school Call of Duty design. This MW2 map is brown and beige and is full of head glitches, but objectives pull this design far and wide and you'll have plenty of opportunities for a flank.

Breenbergh Hotel

Following on from its Beta runout, Breenbergh Hotel is one of the ten 6v6 maps, offering quite a few different lanes and two platforms of gunplay.

Crown Raceway

Having been originally snubbed for the beta, the Formula 1 race track map is back. Although the name has been changed to Crown Raceway from Marina Bay, presumably due to legal reasons, the Singaporean race circuit is here in MW2 and makes for quite an engaging objective map.

El Asilo

The silo, presumably. This MW2 map is quite dark, taking place during sunset. But this map is destined to be good, and follows similar patterns to the likes of Vacant, Hacienda, and Eagle's Nest, featuring a long building with many hallways and surrounding gardens to get behind the back.

Embassy

This relatively small map is a blend of extremely tight corners matched by two long lanes of sight across the middle. It can be a haven for all types of players, but there's seldom only one operator around each corner.

Farm 18

The 'Shoot House' of MW2, Farm 18. This map centres around an indoor hub where SMGs and shotguns prevail, but there's also much success to be found with an M4 around the sides.

Mercado Las Almas

Las Almas is quite the popular choice of map in Modern Warfare 2 following the beta, offering the typical three-lane gameplay but both north to south and east to west, almost like a criss-cross. Meet in the middle for some mayhem.

Santa Sena Border Crossing

If you like running straight lines and snaking on cars, then Santa Sena Border Crossing is for you. It might not be the best Hardpoint map, for instance, but an aggressive Domination player could be rewarded lucratively on here.

Taraq

Hm, the less said about Taraq, the better. Unless you're a sniper fan then this map won't be very forgiving, as only the most accurate long-distance players will prevail.

Zarqwa Hydroelectric

This Mid-Western MW2 map is quite a blast, and there are so many avenues to find success in. If you're land-born you'll enjoy using an AR, but SMG players may find more benefits with their swimwear on.

Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Maps: Ground War Maps

Modern Warfare 2's large-scale maps are designed for large player counts and typically feature vehicles. You'll find these maps in playlists like Ground War.

Al Bagra Fortress

As an expanded version of the 6v6 map of its namesake, the Al Bagra Fortess is simply what it says on the tin. A fort and its surrounding barracks.

Sa'id

As the heart of the Warzone 2 map, Sa'id is based on an Iranian landscape, containing lovely white marble buildings. It's a shame there are 64 players firing rockets in it.

Santa Sena

Featuring the Santa Sena Border Crossing 6v6 map, this ground war is one of the more dense ground war maps, featuring many buildings and cars in a post-war setting.

Sariff Bay

Sariff Bay will showcase Modern Warfare 2's new swimming mechanics. This map is set in a fishing village surrounded by water.

Zarqwa Hydroelectric

You better bring some large mags to Zarqwa, as there are a lot of people and not much map. This may be the most hectic Ground War design yet.

We can expect two more maps to come in the next few weeks, but for the most part, these are the 6v6 Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer maps that we can look forward to playing on.
