League of Legends has plenty of Champions for players to learn and master, but just how many Champions are there? Played by millions and millions of players each month, League of Legends is one of the most popular video game titles of all time. But how many Champions are there in League of Legends after 14 years of updates? Here’s what you need to know.

Developer Riot Games keeps the most popular MOBA in the world consistently updated with new patches every two to three weeks, and new seasons every year. Within these updates, there's plenty of new content and features for players to enjoy, as well as new Champions to learn.

When League of Legends initially launched back on October 27, 2009, the game only had around 40 Champions. Since then, not only have many of those original Champions been significantly changed but many more have been added.

On average, the developer releases four to five new Champions each year. Although it has slowed down in recent years in favour of Champion rework and updates, that doesn’t mean the number of Champions in the game will get any smaller.

At this current moment in time, League of Legends houses over 140 Champions, 162 to be exact. K’Sante, the Pride of Nazumah, is the most recent one to release. They were added during the 12.21 patch in November 2022.

K’Sante was one of many new Champions that were released throughout 2022. They were joined by Zeri, Renata Glasc, Bel’Veth, and Nilah - all of which offer a completely unique playstyle to master.

For 2023, Riot plans to slow down on its new Champion releases. Instead, it will look to reworking and updating some of the Champions that the community does feel aren’t quite up to par with the current quality level that League of Legends strives for. The developers began its rework mission with Jax, and players can expect the likes of Ahri, Skarner, and Aurelion Sol.
