Destiny 2 Lost Sectors are short, off-shoot missions dotted throughout the open-world spaces of the game. Destiny 2 has evolved a lot since launching in 2017, and Lost Sectors have changed their function too. Where they were once a bit of extra content and something fun to do while out exploring, they now exist to give solo players an endgame level challenge. For everything you need to know about how lost sectors work in the modern game, here is our guide to Destiny 2 Lost Sectors.

  • The deluxe edition of the Witch Queen expansion gives players early access to the Osteo Striga SMG, but there is still some work to do to get it. Learn more here in Destiny 2 Osteo Striga.

Every open world space in Destiny 2 has several Lost Sectors dotted around them. Lost Sectors have a particular symbol, you can see it on the map indicating their locations. That said, finding Lost Sectors can still be a challenge. They are lost for a reason, and the entrances are often concealed. Use the symbol on the map to find the general location, then look for the symbol on a wall that indicates the entrance to the Lost Sector.

Destiny 2 Lost Sectors function like short little dungeon areas. They occasionally have some extra mechanics but for the most part, they just involve fighting through a large group of enemies and defeating a boss at the end. Defeating the boss unlocks the chest, where you can grab your reward. Lost Sectors mostly reward rare gear, which is the blue tier of gear. These items can be helpful for levelling up in the early game.

For a long time, Lost Sectors existed purely as described above. For high-level players, they no longer mattered and became, fittingly, lost to time. However, Lost Sectors got an overhaul a couple of years ago with the introduction of legend and master Lost Sectors. Bungie has done a lot to give players as many options as possible to engage in endgame content, and Lost Sectors have become an endgame challenge for solo players. How it works is that every day there is a new Destiny 2 Lost Sector designated. You will see it on the map and can mark it to find it easily.

You will find a banner flag at the entrance of the Lost Sector, and you need to interact with the flag to begin the legend or master version, you can choose which difficulty you want to try. Currently, the legend level is 1550 and the Master level is 1580. Considering the level cap is 1560, these are extremely high-level activities, similar to high-level Nightfalls and Raids.

Now, they can be done with a team of three but in order to get the powerful rewards players must complete these lost sectors by themselves. Since the Legend and Master level Lost Sectors have been added to the game, they have been the primary source of new Exotic armour, in fact, most new Exotic armour is exclusive to these Lost Sectors. As such, Legend and Master level Lost Sectors have become an extremely important part of Destiny 2.

That is everything you need to know about Destiny 2 Lost Sectors. For more on the topic, why not check out one of our guides on completing a Legend or Master difficulty Lost Sector, such as the Destiny 2 Metamorphosis Lost Sector.
