With every new console generation, there’s always a huge slew of changes that come along too. There’s often an adjustment period after upgrading, getting used to how everything works in new UIs and getting to grips with new controllers and peripherals. But the Xbox Series X and S seemed different.

The UI of the new Xbox consoles is practically identical to that of the Xbox One, and the biggest change the consoles have had are all under the hood, so you may not have noticed you were playing a new console unless you were in-game. But, it looks like Microsoft are embracing the new era of gaming, as it looks like their game boxes are undergoing some changes to signify their compatibility with Xbox Series X.

Xbox Series X’s New Game Boxes

According to retailers like Best Buy who are already stocking their online stores with boxed versions of games revealed at E3, it looks like Microsoft are quietly changing the way their game boxes look. So far, the new-look boxes have been revealed for the likes of Microsoft Flight Simulator, Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite have been revealed, and they do away with the eyesore of the green bar at the top.

The boxes look more like DVD boxes than anything, and give the box art itself a little more room to breathe. The white ribbon in the top left corner indicates the consoles that the game is compatible with, and leaves most of the rest of the space to the artwork prepared by the game. It’s a change that’ll take some time to get used to (as is the way with changes to a whole bracket of consoles) but it’s one that’s for the best in branding the new consoles as separate from the Xbox One. Now to figure out how to display them!
