Steam Next Fest is shaping up to be another great chance to check out the best and most interesting titles coming in 2023 and beyond, and USC: Counterforce certainly looks worth a look.

If you've played any amount of classic 90s PC tactics games like the original XCOM, or spent time playing Space Hulk, there's a lot to tickle your nostalgia glands here.

The game, developed by Angry Cat Studios and published by FireSquid, takes the turn-based nature of tactical RPGs and infuses it with some pretty grim stakes as players battle against extraterrestrial horrors on planetary body M-8322.

USC: Counterforce will debut a new demo as part of Valve's marquee event, which features a tutorial, two modes, three missions, and squad customisation. If you're itching for a true battle of wits, there will be five different difficulty settings included.

Developer Angry Cat Studios certainly wears its influences on its sleeve, with custom characters with unique attributes and skills coming up against Alien-inspired monstrosities in the dark of M-8322, and there's co-op included using Steam's "Remote Play Together" functionality.

The devs will be streaming the game and answering questions live on Twitch on February 10th at 9PM GMT/11AM PST.

You can check out the game's Steam Page here - it's expected to launch in March 2023, but there's no firm release date just yet.
