If you want to put your pants on the outside of your trousers, an unmade Superman game shows what the Man of Steel would look like if we let him take flight in Unreal Engine 5. Forget his upcoming turn in Rocksteady's Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, what about a full-blown standalone for Kal-El and Clark?

Over the years, we've had a few Superman games, with most never really being able to break through to the mainstream. The exception is Titus Interactive's Superman 64 from 1999, but that's for a very different reason considering it's largely held as one of the worst video games of all time.

What Is The Unmade Superman Game?

The last Superman game was Superman Returns from 2006, and although it was a vast improvement on Superman 64, it was hardly Arkham Asylum in terms of groundbreaking gameplay. With it being 16 years (and counting) since the Metropolis Marvel took flight, we're rightly asking when/if he'll get his time to shine.

Posting on Twitter, @volodxyz showed off their impressive prototype for a Superman game in Unreal Engine 5. This is clearly the next generation of where the gaming sphere is heading, but with Unreal Engine 5 only being unleashed to developers on April 5, it's new territory for us all.

In these short clips, the developer has tweaked The Matrix Awakens' Unreal Engine 5 showcase to show what a Superman game could look like. The "City Sample" assets pack has been put to good use here, and although the faceless character model doesn't look anything like Supes, the way he flies around the cityscape and does a powerful superhero landing lets you know it's supposed to be him.

Will We Get A Superman Game?

At the time of writing, Superman looks like he'll be confined to Kill the Justice League, where he's one of the Justice League heroes that's been corrupted by Brainiac. Given that the backdrop is Metropolis instead of Rocksteady's rain-soaked streets of Gotham City, there's every chance we could return. Also, let's remember there was once talk of the developer heading up a Superman spin-off from the Arkham trilogy

As late as 2018, there were whispers Rocksteady would announce a Superman game in 2018, but it never came to pass. Rocksteady's Sefton Hill claims the title was never in the works, however, concept art from WB Montreal's Joël Dos Reis Viegas suggests that someone at Warner Bros. was presumably mulling over the idea. More recently, there were claims Gotham Knights' WB Montreal could take flight with Superman, so who knows what the future holds?

Either way, we can all agree on an Unreal Engine 5 Superman game looks a damn sight better than the theatrical release of Justice Leauge
