We're ready to dive into a whole new world, as the hype surrounding BioShock is at fever pitch. Put on your best Big Daddy suit and step into the bathysphere because Andrew Ryan is ready to welcome us back to Rapture in a big way.

While news of a fourth BioShock game has been doing the rounds long before its official announcement in late 2019, players might be shocked to learn it could be coming much sooner than expected. 2022 is already packed to bursting with AAA titles, but alongside the mysterious BioShock 4, there are suggestions ANOTHER title is on the way from 2K.

Are two BioShock games coming in 2022?

The latest scoop comes from that massive Nvidia GeForce datamine that's blown the gaming world apart. News of Injustice 3, another Kingdom Hearts, and the long-rumoured Resident Evil 4 remake are all well and good, but for some, two BioShock blockbusters have us recreating the Fry from Futurama meme by shouting, "Shut up and take my money."

There was a mention of "BioShock 2022", as well as something called "BioShock RTX Remaster". Back in 2018, Kotaku made reference to a fourth mainline BioShock game - meaning it was in development for around 18 months before it was first announced. Developers suggested work would continue for "several years", so it is technically true that a 2022 release fits that timeframe.

We should probably remember all of this came before the industry was upturned by the COVID-19 pandemic and game delays became the norm. We're looking at you Battlefield 2042BioShock 4 is also tipped to be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, so who really knows what's going on?

Will we really get BioShock 4 in 2022?

Sorry to dampen your hopes of BioShock 4 in 2022, but we're going to err on the side of caution with this one. Diving deeper into the various leaks and rumours, the newly formed Cloud Chamber studio has been busy tinkering away on what's next. That being said, we've heard literally nothing on BioShock 4, so it would be more than a little surprising if the game's anywhere near ready for a 2022 release.

Critics have pointed out that BioShock 2022 is an unusual title - even for a placeholder. Added to this, recent job listings teased an open-world setting, while others claim it will use Unreal Engine 5. If 2K is still in the recruiting stage, it's hardly an indication that the next chapter is ready to come out all guns blazing in 2022.

Finally, Nvidia has done its best to distance itself from the leak (via WCCFTech) and branded some of the games named are purely speculative. On the other hand, rumours of BioShock 4 had been swirling long before its official announcement, so we'll have to look out for even a glimmer of Rapture's neon, Columbia's Sky-Line, or an entirely new locale.

We last had a BioShock release in the form of BioShock: The Collection in 2016, and some six years later, it could be time to give the old gal a bit of a facelift. Either way, we can hear the rumbling roar of a Big Daddy from here.
