Bandai Namco has officially announced that Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris will be making its debut on Nintendo Switch.

The news about the game was revealed at the Anime Expo, that was held in Los Angeles from July 1-4, following the recent Sword Art Online Alicization anime series.

The game is the latest in a series that are based on one of the most popular anime stories ever made. The lore of the JRPG gets a little complicated, as the game and the anime series are both based on a Japanese light novel series written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by abec. The series takes place in the near future and focuses on protagonists Kazuto "Kirito" Kirigaya and Asuna Yuuki as they play through various virtual reality MMORPG worlds.

What Is Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycrois About?

The story follows the protagonist, Kirito, in a mysterious "Underworld," where advanced A.I.s are being mistaken for humans. As players take charge of Kirito, they will relive 'heart pounding scenes and go through a series of high-speed, intense combat', according to a press release from Bandai Namco.

Other fan favourite characters will be making an appearance: Eugeo, Alice, Administrator, and many more will also be crossing Kiritos' path. An immersive open world JRPG is awaiting Kirito and his friends in this adaptation of the Sword Art Online: Alicization series.

When Is Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycrois Being Released?

Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on July 9, 2020. However, the release date for the Switch version is yet to be announced, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled for more information soon. This version will be consisting of the new "Ancient Apostles" update, including free and paid content, which will be made available in the coming updates.
