Super Smash Bros Ultimate may have been the biggest, grandest, crossover in history if not for Avengers: Endgame. Do you reckon Nintendo is still salty about it?

The game fan-favourite brawler is a huge deal both in and out of Nintendo's pockets of fans, with the fighting series being absolutely legendary for bringing characters from the most unpredictable franchises onto Big Battlefield to fight for their lives.

The novelty of pitting Solid Snake against Pichu and Steve from Minecraft doesn't really wear off, and makes Smash Bros. one of the best benchmarks for fighting games - practically inventing its own subgenre. Now, it's getting its dues in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

How Does The MCU Pay Tribute To Smash Bros?

As it turns out, the two greatest pop-culture crossovers in history seem to coexist, as a reference to the iconic game has been made in a new MCU project.

In the first episode of Disney+'s Ms. Marvel series, the titular Ms. Marvel, aka Kamala Khan, invites her friend over to play Smash Bros - who swiftly shoots down the idea.

Fans love that the title has been mentioned at all, but to be shot down seems to have been taken online as an act of absolute blasphemy. When you're asked to play Smash Bros., you play Smash Bros., because that's how it goes.

It's a nice touch that helps to make Kamala Khan's character feel more like an authentic, dorky teenager - but the MCU's connection to video games doesn't end there. Ms. Marvel has already been praised for its whimsical tone, and just like Tom Holland's Peter Parker has a love of Star Wars and LEGO, Kamala clearly loves Smash

Video Games And The MCU Have A Long Relationship

Ever since the technician on the Helicarrier in Avengers Assemble thought he was slick playing Galaga, video games have appeared a few times in the MCU, with Korg playing Fortnite in Avengers: Endgame and Groot with his handheld Arcade Defender in Infinity War.

Plus, the connection could yet get deeper, as with Disney owning the MCU, there's a chance that its characters and locations could appear in the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 4. It remains to be seen - but it's very possible. It's a sweet little touch to include Smash Bros in the MCU, but now we need more. Unless we see Blade play Harvest Moon in his upcoming film, then I don't want it.
