Starfield is set to be double the size of the previous Bethesda Game Studios titles according to the game's composer Inon Zur.

As we get closer to release, everything we hear about Starfield makes it sounds like it's shaping up to be Bethesda Game Studio's most ambitious title yet. The star-faring sci-fi adventure will be BGS' newest single-player RPG since 2015's Fallout 4, and their first new IP in over two decades. To add to the game's already behemoth hype, we're now being told to expect an outing that's double the size of huge like games like Skyrim.

Starfield Is 'Double The Size' Of Previous Bethesda Games

Bethesda Game Studios are famous for creating sprawling worlds for players to get lost in, and Starfield is set to push that even further with a world that is double the size of their previous games like Skyrim and Fallout 4. Speaking in an interview on the Nikhil Hogan Show, Starfield and Fallout composer Inon Zur claimed that the upcoming RPG will be "at least twice as big as the biggest game."

Technically, the biggest game Bethesda ever developed was The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall (which was mostly achieved with procedural generation) though it's more likely that Zur is referring to the more recent games. Bethesda have already confirmed that Starfield will have over 1000 planets that can be explored, and previous leaks have claimed each one will be larger than Skyrim's map. This would obviously put Starfield's size at well over double Skyrim's if the leaks are true, but we'll have to wait and see exactly how big the game is closer to launch.

Aside from telling us more about the supposed size of Starfield, Zur also briefly spoke about what aspects of the game make him excited. Speaking on the narrative, he called it "philosophical" and claimed that it could "provide a different perspective on your whole being." These are quite bold claims, but during previous showings of the game, creative director Todd Howard stated that the game attempts to ask, "now man is living amongst the stars: what does that mean?"

If you want to see whether Starfield will live up to its lofty goals, the game is set to release in the first half of 2023 on Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
