We're back courtside and ready to pump at the jam as Warner Bros. prepares for the release of Space Jam: A New Legacy. As the long-awaited sequel/reboot to 1996's Space Jam, the bizarre hybrid of the Looney Tunes and a basketball movie is back and hoping to score a slam dunk with fans old and new.

To celebrate the upcoming release of Space Jam: A New Legacy, there's a host of gaming merchandise and even a free-to-play game that will be exclusive to Xbox players. Following a massive E3 that has made us question whether now is the time to buy an Xbox Series X/S, the idea of a Space Jam game has us waving our money at Microsoft and saying, "Take it all".

What is the Space Jam: A New Legacy game?

In the trailer for Space Jam: A New Legacy - The Game, fan-favourite Bugs Bunny explains how its creation was part of a contest where fans could submit their own ideas for a tie-in game. The pixelated beat-'em-up features game versions of lead actor LeBron James, Lola Bunny, and Bugs.

Digital Eclipse's game looks like a suitable throwback to the '90s arcade games that would've been around when the OG Space Jam premiered all those years ago. Space Jam: A New Legacy – The Game launches exclusively on the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Perks program on July 1. After that, July 15 marks the date it becomes free-to-play on the Microsoft Store.

The trailer is only short, but shows the terrific trio beating up robotic-looking enemies with a variety of basketball moves. By the looks of it, each of the characters will have their own unique move - similar to arcade games like The Simpsons and X-Men

What else is being released for Space Jam: A New Legacy?

If an Xbox game wasn't enough for you, how about some Space Jam-themed controllers? There are three limited edition controllers based on the upcoming sequel. The plot of A New Legacy follows LeBron James as the NBA superstar is pulled into the Warner 3000 entertainment Server-verse by a rogue AI (played by Don Cheadle). With a gaming theme, it explains the merchandise and the game.

The purple Goon Squad and cyber Serververse controllers are only available in North America at the Microsoft Store and Amazon, while the orange Tune Squad controller can be picked up worldwide via the Microsoft Store and other retailers. All three will be released on July 8. As for Space Jam: A New Legacy, the basketball bonanza will debut on July 16 and hit HBO Max a month later.
