Damn, just when you wanted to put a poster of Knuckles the echidna on your wall and kiss it goodnight at the end of a long day. Sadly, Idris Elba has promised the fan-favourite speedster won't be "sexy" in Sonic the Hedgehog 2

While Idris Elba is known for his roles in everything from the Thor movies to The Suicide Squad - and even a potential to take over as James Bond - he'll be ditching his sex symbol status for Jeff Fowler's upcoming sequel. With Sonic the Hedgehog 2 currently in pre-production, Elba is racing into action.

What Has Idris Elba Said About Sonic The Hedgehog 2?

Not that we'd ever really thought about it, but apparently, Knuckles is a sexy little echidna. Remember when the first images of 2020's Sonic the Hedgehog emerged and the titular hog definitely hadn't been skipping leg day - were we expecting a ripped Knuckles with abs for days in the next one?

Discussing the sexless Knuckles, Elba told Screen Rant, "Honestly, I cannot say. Contractually, I cannot say anything. But I wouldn't say he was sexy. I don't think I'm going for that. That's for sure." Clearly, he's never played a Sonic if he doesn't think Knuckles will become a dark and brooding sex symbol like Kylo Ren.

Considering Elba was named People's Sexist Man Alive in 2018 and is known for his commanding screen presence, there were always going to be some who'd assume Knuckles would be equally good-looking. Hey, if fans can make Dugtrio sexy, anything is possible.

How Will Knuckles Fit Into Sonic The Hedgehog 2?

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 looks like it picks up as a direct sequel to the original. Ben Schwartz is back in the title role, alongside James Marden and Tika Sumpter returning as the human contingent. Elsewhere, Jim Carrey will be reprising his role as the villainous Dr. Eggman/Ivo Robotnik and Tails will be back following his appearance in the movie's mid-credits scene.

First introduced in 1993's Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Knuckles was the secondary antagonist and was eventually revealed as a puppet of Dr. Robotnik. Knuckles is also known as the Guardian of the Master Emerald, which is used to keep the seven Chaos Emeralds in line. Although the Chaos Emeralds are a massive part of the series' lore, they were missing from the OG movie.

Assuming the movie follows the loose story of the games, expect Elba's red blur to be butting heads with Sonic before presumably joining forces before the final credits roll. Sorry though, you'll have to go back to thirsting over fan art of Knuckles online.
