The power of the gamer has never been tried and tested as it has during the Gamestop stock exchange saga. With Reddit users combining, investments have been poured into Gamestop and other alike businesses which have seen a surge in shares and value.

In a Wolf of Wallstreet-esque nature, the Reddit community single-handedly made millions of dollars from the rising stocks, which lead to a worldwide debate as many tech moguls attempting to tornado the market rather than weather the storm - however, that is a debate for a wider mind than my own.

One of the winners of the fiasco was 20-year-old Hunter Kahn, a college student from Minnesota. Khan rode the wave and earned $30,000 after the stock soared by 1,625%, and with his earnings, he gifted gaming to a community that needed a virtual escape much more than he needed the money.

Instead of using the money to wipe some of the tuition fees away, Khan opted to purchase more $2,000 worth of Nintendo Switches, along with multiple games, gift cards, and screen protectors. As a belated Santa Claus - minus the beard and belly - Khan donated the Nintendo stack to children's hospitals to Children’s Minnesota Hospital.

Speaking on Instagram, Khan said: "As a beneficiary of the recent events on Wall Street I think it is important that myself and others pay forward our good fortune. These events have highlighted a lot of corruption and with this transfer of power, it is important that we don’t become men in suits ourselves".

"I am proud to announce my humble donation of 6 Nintendo Switches and games to go with them to the Children’s Minnesota Hospital".

His actions have received a wealth of applause and admiration, with multiple Reddit threads going viral in his honour, some even racking up north of 100,000 upvotes.

Other users have now begun to follow suit too, with comments along the lines of "You know what? I’m gonna donate some cool sh*t with a some of the money I made off it. That might make me happy and the world a slightly better place", being a popular theme.

With the gaming community often looked down upon by the wider audience, this goes to show that there are many bright stars within us.
