There's gold in them thar remakes. Well, that sounds like the motto of Take-Two Interactive, as the parent company of Rockstar Games has teased a potential remake of Red Dead Redemption. Although the 2010 classic is technically the second in the Red Dead series (following 2004's Red Dead Revolver), Redemption helped catapult the series forward and is rightly remembered as one of the best video games of all time.

Since the release of Redemption, we've had plenty of additional content, the Undead Nightmare zombie standalone, and a sequel in the form of Red Dead Redemption 2. Even though players are looking ahead at hints of the inevitable Red Dead 3, others want the open-world Western to be given a new lease of life on next-gen systems. More than just a pipe dream, 2K has thrown fuel on the campfire that one's on the way.

What's the Red Dead Redemption remake rumour?

Although most of the Rockstar talk tends to surround Grand Theft Auto remakes and the long-awaited GTA 6, let's not forget the rootin' tootin' fun of Red Dead. After Take-Two confirmed there will be six games released between now and the end of the 2022 fiscal year, the company added that there will be "new iterations of previously released titles". Following hot off the heels of news we're getting something related to Grand Theft Auto 3, A Red Dead Redemption remake would arguably be an even bigger announcement.

2K clearly has a lot planned for the near future, and only recently, announced a new franchise from the studio behind the Borderlands games. There has also been rife speculation that Rockstar's long-dormant Bully could get a sequel. Arthur Morgan is all well and good, but when it comes to pure, unadulterated, Red Dead, John Marston is where the action's at. Away from hopes there will be a third game, Take-Two could follow in the footsteps of the upcoming GTA V remaster with Red Dead Redemption

Will there be a Red Dead Redemption remake?

Wild theorising and hopes of Red Dead Redemption's ravenous fan base is all well and good, but is there more to the story? Earlier this year, a sketchy 4Chan post was removed that outlined a next-gen Red Dead Redemption. 4Chan is hardly known for its solid track record of "real" leaks, but for every thousand that are debunked, one is on the money. Interestingly, the leak also claimed the Red Dead remaster would come out before the GTA V remake. We can't see the mythical game leapfrogging the already announced GTA V, but stranger things have happened.

Other whispers of a Red Dead Redemption remake emerged shortly after the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018. Back then, leakers claimed its predecessor would be rebuilt with the RDR2 engine and include updated dialogue that references the events of Redemption and Arthur Morgan.

Take-Two dishing out six games might seem like loads, but let's remember at least one of these slots will be taken up by the new Gearbox IP, while another is presumably going to the next-gen GTA V. With four slots left, the next BioShock could be another contender, however, we're almost guaranteed to get another remake in some form. Considering Red Dead Redemption is currently stuck on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, it's about time Mr. Marston stuck on a stetson and rode into town for a new generation.
