The chickens in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive are sacred creatures, and although they will award deathmatch players one point when slain, killing them makes you evil and you'll be cursed with bad luck in your future AWP endeavours, allegedly.

Instead, the plucky squawkers are seen more as a good omen, and one group of fans have gone above and beyond to test just how much of an effect their karma can have in-game.

CS:GO Fans Use Chickens To Gain Good Rewards From Crates

Psychic animals are no strangers to headlines, with the 2010 football World Cup being the beginning of a series of tentacular mediums that stunned the world. Paul the Octopus mastered the art of divination to correctly predict the outcomes of eight consecutive matches, including all seven of Germany's games and the final between the Netherlands and Spain.

Now, chickens are the new sorcerers. Well, for CS:GO fans anyway.

YouTube user "Arrow" has now used CS:GO's chickens to open rare crates, seeing whether the supposed good omen can bring himself an expensive pull.

The user placed chicken food onto a laptop that was running CS:GO, and left it just one click away from opening a crate, with the idea that a single peck would then reveal their rewards.

Can Chickens Make For Better CS:GO Crate Luck?

When a chicken is shot in CS:GO it will simply turn into a poof of feathers, or confetti during themed events, and move to a new location. Devious little livestock. Well, it turns out that the real-life chickens are just as deceitful, and on their first attempt of opening the crates, the chickens decided CS:GO was rubbish and instead closed down the game.

In a second attempt for Arrow and his feathered flock, the chickens successfully opened the crate. With hopes of getting CS:GO goldust in skins for gloves or knives, Arrow was soon left underwhelmed by a mediocre SG553 Aloha wrap instead.

So it turns out that Paul the Octupus' legacy is not tarnished by being the best mystic from the animal kingdom, and chickens are foxier than you would imagine.

Animals are continuing to get to grips with games, so, who knows what is next to come? Maybe we'll see a viper control VALORANT's names(n)ake agent and use their rattling tail to whip out a devilish Vandal trigger finger.
