Is it just us, or does Xbox's acquisition of Bethesda seem to have made an impression on PlayStation? Of course, the gaming company was bound to make some big purchases of its own volition - but the huge win for Microsoft's gaming company seems to have spurred Sony to pick up the pace a little.

Not too long ago, PlayStation made its purchase of Nixxes - the team behind the rebooted Tomb Raider trilogy - and along with it, came a leak of another acquisition already made, or planned to make. It was a big deal at the time, as the company is a big deal at the moment. Finally, the deal is done. PlayStation has announced the new addition to the PS family, and whew, is it a big addition.

PlayStation Acquires Bluepoint Games

After a leak surfaced a while back, it has now officially been confirmed that PlayStation has acquired Bluepoint Games - the team behind Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls.

The announcement was made just moments ago by PlayStation. An exciting trailer posted to the gaming giant's Twitter page dropped the bombshell. The video was presented by Hermen Hulst, who stated that he was "so proud" to be welcoming the studio to the PlayStation family.

The team behind the Uncharted remasters have been pally with PlayStation for some time by negotiating its exclusive titles. Now, we know exactly what they're working on next.

Bluepoint Games Announces Is New Original

Commenting on the acquisition, Bluepoint president Marco Thrush has revealed what's next for the company.

"Our next project, we're working on original content right now. We can't talk about what that is, but that's the next step in the evolution for us", he revealed.

So, with sequels and remakes ruled out, we can get excited for a brand-new game with a brand-new story from the loved studio. With Bluepoint perched under the wing of PlayStation, there's every chance it could be its best work yet.

It's a big purchase for sure - but PlayStation has assured fans this isn't the last acquisition it has up its sleeve. We'll have to wait and see what it is, and if it's anywhere close to the scale of this big buy, then we're bound to be delighted.
