You probably know this by now, but the last Nintendo Direct was an absolute stonker.

Cold opening with a new Pikmin 4 trailer and release date. Stealth dropping a Metroid Prime remaster. A new Professor Layton game revealed. And of course, the obligatory Tears of the Kingdom closer. It was an absolute treat with surprises galore, and it has already been heralded as one of the best Nintendo Direct presentations in years.

But, lucky as we were to see the reveals that we did, other regions got their own special goodies, and Japan's Nintendo Direct held a surprise that we weren't lucky enough to see.

Japan's Nintendo Direct Got A Bonus Game

Though we loved our Nintendo Direct, we can't help but feel jealous now, because Japan's version of the conference offered an extra game, and it's a new instalment in a beloved series that hasn't often seen the outside of the country.

The Nintendo Direct revealed a new trailer for Natsu-Mon: 20th Century Summer Vacation, the latest instalment in the series created by Boku no Natsuyasumi mastermind Kaz Ayabe.

The series is a very simple one, putting you in the shoes of a child just hanging out on vacation, catching bugs, climbing trees, and generally just having a nice time. It's a sweet franchise, but for the most part, it's remained tied down in Japan, so it makes sense that the game should show up as a Japan exclusive.

But that doesn't mean the series is totally alien to us.

Boku no Natsuyasumi Actually Came To The West

Thankfully we haven't been kept completely in the dark when it comes to the serene and quirky series - as in fact, one of the game's titles landed on our shores recently.

Shin chan: Me and the Professor on Summer Vacation: The Endless Seven-Day Journey (quite the mouthful, we know) actually landed in the West last year as it arrived on Switch and PC. So it's certainly nice to know that Japan gets the new exclusive title, we're not left entirely without a chance to take the sweet series for a spin. If you need us, we'll be swiping beetles.
