New World Is Finally Live - But Servers Are Struggling
MMOs might seem a dime a dozen these days, but looking at the legacy of titles like Star Wars: The Old Republic, The Elder Scrolls Online, and World of Warcraft, we're obsessed with whiling away our evenings in these fantasy worlds. It's been a long time coming, but now, Amazon's New World is finally joining the party.
We've covered a lot about New World, with the game already generating plenty of buzz and overtaking the likes of Call of Duty: Warzone on Twitch. Expect to see a lot more of New World now it has been fully unleashed onto the world - well, that's if you can gain access to the New World servers.
What's going on with the New World server status?
As with any new release, the popularity of a game means developers are going to struggle with sluggish servers and long queues at launch. Only recently, the ongoing success of Apex Legends saw its own servers take a nosedive. Still, New World fans are less than impressed.
The supernatural island of Aeternum is welcoming its first official visitors, with the EU servers currently live and the rest of the world expected throughout today (September 28). Even though we expected New World queues, disgruntled players are already giving up hope, as the game's servers continue to struggle.
If you head over to the New World forums, it doesn't make for pleasant reading. The majority of posts are simply angry fans ranting that they can't even get into the MMO. One post is titled "Amazon, please explain how this kind of queue times is acceptable by a paying customer" and lists times of up to 79 hours of wait.
Another reads, "Since the NA players have destroyed the EU server times and we can’t get into the game, can you remove the Americans permanently from the game. Thanks". A third simply reads, "What did you expect?"
When will the New World servers be fixed?
The million-dollar question is when will our transition into the game become a seamless experience? Presumably, in panic mode, Amazon is likely doing everything in its path to get New World running quicker. Putting it simply, things probably won't get better until the hype dies down.
Unsurprisingly, the problems are more widespread than just New World queue issues. We were previously asked to ignore streamers' opinions, but now the game is out, issues include clicks that aren't being registered, players being forced to restart, and devs taking several worlds offline to support stability.
Like a hybrid between Valheim and World of Warcraft, New World is a PvP-heavy game that also appeals to PvE players to get the best of both worlds. It all sounds promising (if you can get into a server), but hopefully, it's just a case of Amazon ironing out a few of the kinks. For the time being, we find ourselves feeling a bit like Old Rose from Titanic.
