Netflix Might Be Developing Gaming Division, According To Report
Netflix is no stranger to the world of video games. The streaming service might have hosted series and movies based on video game properties, but it runs a lot deeper than that. The platform has hosted interactive entertainment in the shape of Black Mirror: Bandersnatch and a special for Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt but has also posted full games in a similar style. Minecraft: Story Mode was the first fully-fledged game on Netflix, that’s entirely playable effortlessly on your TV. It was a strange experience, but apparently, it’s one that worked, as Netflix is looking to expand their plunge into the world of gaming according to a report.

Reuters has reported that Netflix is on the search for a new member of staff who will oversee some more gaming endeavours, either on or on behalf of the platform. The report states that “Netflix is looking to hire an executive to oversee an expansion into video games, a sign it is stepping up its efforts to grow beyond traditional filmed entertainment, according to people familiar with the situation”.
It’s an interesting suggestion, especially when you consider the implications that this could have for the wider world of gaming. Netflix could be looking exclusively for more titles that are similar to their previous endeavours like Minecraft: Story Mode, or they could be using their brand as a streaming service to take on the Xbox Game Pass as a new subscription service for video games already on the market.

If Netflix joins the gaming world, it could change the industry forever if executed properly. As video game streaming becomes more popular, there’s no company better kitted out to take on the market than them. A collaboration of gaming and TV would be huge, and we’re curious to see where this search takes Netflix.
