Nadeshot Admits 100 Thieves Name Stems From Skyrim

Being one of the biggest esports organisations out there, 100 Thieves continues to grow as a well-branded and well-performing marketing machine. 100T is the brainchild of Matthew "Nadeshot" Haag, but if you ever wondered where the now-iconic name comes from, it turns out it's from a video game.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim came out in 2011 as the sequel to 2006's The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Surpassing all expectations, Bethesda's record-breaking open-world game went on to shift an eye-watering 30-million copies. With it being held as one of the best of all time, it's no surprise Nadeshot's org was influenced by Skyrim

How did 100 Thieves come from Skyrim?

Discussing how he came up with 100 Thieves, Nadeshot explained at this year's E3, "I was just trying to come up with words that play on each other, that sound really cool. If I'm being totally candid, that's all it really was. Thieves popped up into my head, I don't remember why...maybe I was playing Skyrim a lot, I don't know".

He continued, "Thieves Guild? Thieves, thieves, thieves by itself, definitely can't get the trademark for that. It wouldn't be that original, like how can I add something on top to make it sound fun?" So there we have it, 100 Thieves was born from the org of professional thieves that operates out of the Old Kingdom of Skyrim

We're not suggesting Nadeshot, CouRage, Valkyrae, NICKMERS, SlasheR, and all the rest are an actual group of thieves, but it's interesting to know Nadeshot attributes the team's name to such an important piece of gaming history.

Will there be another Elder Scrolls?

It's been nearly a decade since Skyrim stepped onto the scene and blew the competition out of the water. The Elder Scrolls 6 was officially announced at E3 2018, but as Bethesda has shifted focus to the likes of Starfield, we're still left in the dark when it comes to the Skyrim sequel. Whenever it releases, it's certain to be an equally massive game.

Only recently, we covered how the Starfield trailer might've referenced The Elder Scrolls 6's location, but apart from that, we haven't got anything official. Whatever is going on, we guess Nadeshot is keeping a close eye on where TES6 is up to.

100T has been around since 2017, with the org rising to the top of the esports scene and beyond. Since then, Nadeshot has also branched out into the Los Angeles Thieves, so who knows what's next? With The Elder Scrolls 6 presumably out there somewhere, Nadeshot could be planning another 100T spin-off with its roots in Tamriel.
