Someone Created Matt Hancock's Office In Duke Nukem 3D
Some things you just can't imagine working together. Tom Cruise and Cher, chips in milkshakes, Vin Diesel and the Fast and Furious movies. Now, Matt Hancock and Duke Nukem could be one of the weirdest. While the former Health Secretary of the United Kingdom stays low amidst allegations of an affair with his aide, someone has added THAT infamous office to Duke Nukem 3D.
Hancock may have been the poster boy for the coronavirus pandemic in the UK, but away from the cringe-worthy moment it looked like he pretended to cry on live TV, footage of him locking lips with aide Gina Coladangelo has to be one of the most toe-curling moments from the Government's COVID-19 drama.
After The Sun first released the pictures of Coladangelo and the married Mr. Hancock, the situation soon went viral and was all over the internet. It seems even the world of video games isn't safe from satire, with Hancock now setting up shop in the Duke Nukem series.
Who put Matt Hancock's office in Duke Nukem?
Posting on Twitter, Dan Douglas showed off one of the most niche gaming builds we've ever seen. Then again, we're totally here for it. Speaking to NME, Douglas explained, "The idea came from seeing the Daily Mail publish an absurdly detailed floor plan of Matt Hancock’s office at The Department of Health following The Sun printing CCTV camera footage of his affair”.
Douglas originally used the Build Engine that was previously used all those years ago for Duke Nukem 3D in 1996. However, he had to swap to Mapster32 when he wasn't able to insert custom textures. Douglas added, "The principles are the same as when I was creating maps in 1996. I’m still very much learning as I’m going – I have no development experience".
What started out as a bit of fun has since turned into a twisted labour of love where Douglas wants to get every inch of Hancock's infamous office nailed. Piecing together the pieces like a digital Sherlock Holmes, Douglas looks like he's done Hancock's office justice in Duke Nukem 3D.
What's next for Matt Hancock's office in Duke Nukem 3D?
Given the popularity of the build, we don't imagine this is the end of Douglas recreating political scandals in Duke Nukem 3D. What's next, will we see a pixelated version of Dominic Cummings visiting Barnard Castle?
Douglas has already broadened his horizons to create a whole video game London in Duke Nukem 3D. He's currently taking requests for what else should be added, but at the time of writing, there's Big Ben, a Pret A Manger, and even a Sainsbury's Local that has a packet of Quorn sausage rolls. As well as wanting to add a Boris Johnson zip wire Easter egg, he wants to start putting in animations, so there can be "a TV showing like Piers Morgan storming off the GMB set”.
Current suggestions including adding a Greggs - to rival the recent addition of one into Far Cry 5 - while there's already a recreation of a Foxtons estate agents covered with graffiti that reads “Tory Scum”. We don't know how much longer Douglas is going to carry on, but there's clearly an untapped mine of potential when it comes to this game that's already 25 years old.
There were recent reports that Gearbox Software was working on a new franchise, but as the years go on, it sadly looks like Duke Nukem has been "nuked". Still, we can live out our pop culture and political fantasies in Duke Nukem 3D. All of this from a secretive smooch in Matt Hancock's office. Well done internet, that's enough for today.
